Apple’s October event has come and gone without an update to the truly wireless AirPods, but they continue to remain incredibly popular. According to data compiled by Thinknum, AirPods were the top-selling product at Best Buy during the month of October.
Thinknum tracks sales-rank data from Best Buy and compiles a list of the top-selling products every month. October marks the first time AirPods have secured the top spot, having come in second place last month behind the Amazon Fire TV Stick.
According to Thinknum data, AirPods carried an average category sales rank of 11.38 and appeared in the top-ranked products on Best Buy’s website for 29 days of the month. With these numbers, AirPods were able to slightly best the Amazon Fire TV Stick, which carried an average category rank of 14.62 and were in the top-ranked products for 29 days of the month.
Interestingly, Apple’s Lightning-to-3.5mm headphone adapter was the third best-selling product at Best Buy during the month of October. Sales of the adapter were likely boosted by the fact that Apple no longer includes it in the box with iPhone purchases.
Other Apple products that made the list include various Lightning cables, as well as Apple’s Lightning Digital A/V Adapter. The Lightning version of the EarPods also earned a spot on the list this month.
The success of AirPods at Best Buy shows that the majority of consumers were not holding out for Apple’s October event to see whether or not Apple had an updated version of the headphones coming. Further, AirPods are likely to continue selling well as we move through the holiday season this year. We’ve also started to see them drop in price through select retailers, such as Amazon where they’re currently available for $144.
