Uber app for iOS gets a new Home Screen widget for quickly requesting a ride

Uber on Wednesday announced some updates coming to its app this holiday season. In addition to a new category called UberXXL, the company also revealed a new Home Screen widget for iPhone and iPad users.

Uber adds Home Screen widget and more to its iOS app

The latest version of the Uber app for iOS comes with a Home Screen widget that lets users request a ride to suggested addresses with just a few taps.

“Your time is precious, especially during the holiday rush. That’s why we’re making it easier than ever for you to request a ride. Starting today, iPhone users can add a new Uber widget to their Home Screen to more seamlessly request a ride – in as little as two taps,” the company said in a blog post.

In addition to the new widget, there are a few other changes coming with the update. This includes the new UberXXL category, which lets users request cars with even larger luggage compartments, which is perfect for when you have extra luggage or are traveling in a large group. UberXXL is being rolled out to routes covering more than 60 airports around the world.

Uber will also offer travelers going to an airport the option of sharing a ride with an extra passenger taking the same route. With this option, the fare will be reduced by up to 25% compared to the UberX fare. The app will also let users add their flight information to get recommendations for the best time to leave and request an Uber.

The Uber app is available for free on the App Store and requires a device running iOS 16.2 or later. Make sure you have the latest version of the app installed in order to get access to the new features.
