iOS 27.2 now available: Here’s everything new for iPhone

iOS 27.2 is now available to everyone after six weeks of beta testing. The update was released on Monday, bringing multiple new iPhone features. Here’s everything you need to know.

Why iOS 27.2 and not iOS 27.1?

Apple released iOS 27 on September 14, bringing a ton of new iPhone features, including Siri AI. iOS 27.2 entered beta testing just two days later on September 16.

What happened to iOS 27.1? iOS 27.1 was exclusive to the iPhone Duo, which was released last week and shipped with iOS 27.1. With iOS 27.2, the software update paths have converged and all iPhones will be on the same page going forward.

iOS 27.2 new features

New Siri AI features

Siri AI was the big new feature in iOS 27, and iOS 27.2 expands the feature in multiple ways. First, Siri AI is now available in these five languages:

  • French
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Portuguese
  • Spanish

Second, iOS 27.2 also adds several new features to Siri AI. From Apple’s release notes:

  • Siri AI can recall your past conversations, so you can ask Siri about something it told you before, like the restaurants it recommended last week
  • Siri AI can draw from more sources to give you a great answer, including photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, your voicemails, and better results from Safari history and Reading List
  • Excluded Apps lets you choose which apps Siri, Search, and suggestions can access, all from one setting
  • Granular text selection lets you select and copy just the part of a Siri response you need

Dual Capture mode for Group FaceTime

In iOS 27, Apple added a new Dual Capture feature for FaceTime that lets you have your front and rear cameras active at the same time. The person on the other end of the call will see you as well as whatever you’re looking at. iOS 27.2 expands this feature to Group FaceTime calls for the first time.

Dual Capture requires an iPhone 17 or later, and everyone on the call needs to be running iOS 27.

Also in iOS 27.2, FaceTime now supports adding a third party sign language interpreter or live captioner to a call.

Apple Podcasts

In Apple Podcasts, the “Up Next” queue has been refreshed with two new dedicated rows: New Episodes and Continue Playing. The New Episodes list shows the latest episodes from shows you follow, while Continue Playing shows in-progress episodes, organized by most recently played.

Additionally, episode lists also now use color-matched backgrounds based on the podcast art.

TV app changes

There are two changes to the TV app included in iOS 27.2. First, the update adds Multiview support to iPhone for the first time. This lets you watch up to four live sports streams simultaneously, including MLS, F1, and MLB.

The Apple TV app in iOS 27.2 adds support for profiles for the first time. This feature has been available on tvOS for several years, but this is the first time it has come to iPhone.

Suggestions in Messages

Suggestions in Messages, which feature Apple tested in iOS 27 but removed before the update was released, have returned in iOS 27.2. This feature adds quick shortcut buttons to Messages, making it easy to add things to apps like Calendar and Reminders with a single tap.

Apple Music rebrand

iOS 27.2 introduces a new brand identity for Apple Music. This includes a new app icon, seen above. There are also various interface tweaks throughout the Music app. For example, the red interface accents are now blue.

This is part of a larger Apple Music rebrand that the company debuted last week.

iPhone Duo features

iOS 27.2 adds two new features for iPhone Duo:

  • Support for Apple Pencil (USB-C)
  • Edge Light: add a ring light around the edge of your display to illuminate your face during calls.

More tidbits

  • Support for SynthID watermarking to help identify whether an image was generated or modified with generative tools in Photos and Image Playground.
  • Shared Albums in Photos adds the ability to edit captions and comments. They can also display a reminder before albums expire so participants can save important photos and videos.
  • The Friends tab in the Games app provides context on friend suggestions and shows recent games played on friends’ player pages.
  • There are small interface tweaks to the Clock app, including smaller a.m. and p.m. labels.
  • iOS 27’s Call Context feature, which surfaces information right on your screen when calling a business, has been expanded to include anniversaries.

Security fixes

iOS 27.2 also includes a ton of security fixes, as Apple outlines on its website. There are security fixes in apps like Mail and Safari, as well as Apple Intelligence, the Neural Engine, and more.
