Slim Aluminum MacBooks Coming Soon from Apple

We have received some information about the upcoming Apple laptops – we think they are MacBooks but aren’t 100 percent sure they aren’t the fabled Pro slim line.
What we know:

  • Black aluminum and silver aluminum (like MacBook Pros) have been seen
  • They are considerably slimmer than current MacBook and even a bit more than MacBook Pros
  • The screen reaches much closer to the edges than current MacBooks but is the same size as current MacBooks – indicating a somewhat smaller footprint
  • The keyboards resemble Apple’s new Bluetooth Keyboard
  • There is something strange about the touchpad (more on this to come)
  • While they are dense, overall they are lighter than the current MacBooks

Next rev MacBook Pro platform launched by Intel – Centrino 2 (Montevina) – [Updated – quadcore?]

By now it is a forgone conclusion that Apple will use Intel’s latest Centrino 2 platform in its new Macbook Pro Line-up.  Back when Apple used PowerPC, no one knew what chips Apple would use or when they would come out.  Now that Apple is on the very transparent Intel roadmap, we know what is next.  That next is the Centrino 2 line.  Oh and quad-core in August??

The code-name Montevina refers to the fifth-generation Centrino platform, now formally named Centrino 2. It was scheduled for release at Computex Taipei 2008, which took place on June 3 – 7, 2008, but was delayed until July 14, due to problems with integrated graphics and wireless certification.

Some fun facts about the Centrino 2 Platform:

New MacBooks and MacBook Pros

Apple finally updated the MacBook and MacBook Pro line.  Although, the upgrades are significant, they didn’t include the larger trackpads  that many, including us, had expected.  The Pro line does have multi-touch now, however – though it lacks the new flat-key keyboard design that the MacBooks and Air employ.

The case designs for both lines are also the same.

The processors, video cards and hard drive specs are the only updates – which were expected.  Grab all  the details from Apple.
