A lot of people use the iPhone, to take pictures of their food, and share the pictures on Twitter and Facebook. Sharing photos of your meals online has become a phenomenon and you probably have several friends who participate in this trend. But what if you can actually make a difference for a great cause by taking pictures of your food? That’s exactly what a new app Feedie does. The pictures you take with Feedie can be posted and shared on Facebook, Twitter, Google + and Foursquare.
Because you took a picture at a Feedie restaurant, the restaurant donates to The Lunchbox Fund. Chef Mario Batali is one of the spokesmen for Feedie and The Lunchbox Fund. The Lunchbox Fund is a non-profit organization that provides daily meals for orphaned children in South Africa. The organization works with several schools and have annually provided 240,000 meals since its inception in 2005. Feedie has provided 645 meals, since its launch in the end of April. This app is also now iOS 7 ready:
Upon first opening the Feedie app, it has you swipe through an easy to use interface that allows you to see how to use Feedie.
To set up an account with Feedie, you can sign in with either your Facebook or Twitter account. You can set up your Foursquare and Google + account by pressing the button with the horizontal lines on it, in the upper right hand corner and then press settings.
When you first open the app, you have a feed that shows you every meal that every Feedie user has shared.
If you have friends that are using Feedie, and are following them, you can easily switch to their feed by pressing the Following button.
To find the restaurants that participate with Feedie, press the Geo-pin icon in the lower right hand corner.
It will show you the restaurants that participate on a map, as well as being able to look up by location. Since this app is new, currently most of the restaurants that participate are in New York City. If you want a restaurant to participate with Feedie, educate the restaurant owner about it. Then they can make the decision for themselves. If that restaurant does want to become a Feedie restaurant, they are able to enter in their email address on Feedie’s website. Feedie will then email them back asking for more information about the restaurant, and you are able to start a relationship with them.
To take a picture of your food, press the camera button, down at the bottom in the center of the screen. You are able to either take a picture or upload a picture. Photography fans are going to love the alert that tells you to make sure the camera flash is turned off.
There are even some food-themed filters that you can then apply to the photo.
Then you are able to write a comment about your picture and share it.
The app is very simple to use and beautifully designed with an awesome idea behind it. I hope that the next time you are out and about to share a picture of your food, that you first double check to see if it is a Feedie restaurant. If not educate the restaurant about it.
