The 12-inch Retina MacBook may not be available in stores yet, but Vietnam-based blog Tinhte has already gotten its hands on the next-gen machine. A video posted to YouTube (embedded below) shows the MacBook being unboxed, though it doesn’t seem to be a shipping model, as it won’t boot into OS X. You can see the full unboxing video below, along with a gallery of photos of the computer itself and the accessories that ship with it, including the new charger and quick start guide.

Update: the video above has been marked as private.
Apple first announced the redesigned MacBook last month, but not before 9to5Mac was able to uncover the details of the unreleased device’s design and features. The MacBook will hit store shelves on April 10th, the same day Apple’s first wearable device will be available to demo in stores, giving shoppers two reasons to drop by their local Apple outlet that day.

Happy Birthday Apple!
When did they release the date that these would be available? Don’t remember it at the keynote and on their website it just says “Coming Soon”? Just wondering…
Went back and checked the keynote, and there it is…
I’m surprised the power adapter brick isn’t a little smaller. WAs hoping for more like first gen iPad size. Doesn’t really matter much day-to-day though.
Does any one know about USB-C with the new HDMI adapters. Since it has a passthrough, it should be fine to plug the HDMI adapter in to the power brick, and then the power cord from the adapter to the macbook.
Any reason that wouldn’t work?
Adapter in reference: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MJ1K2AM/A/usb-c-digital-av-multiport-adapter
Yes the power adaptor works with the new Apple HDMI adaptors.
I wouldn’t count on that – it depends: if the usb-c output port of the multiport-adapter is a fully populated one or if it just forwards the power and PD-communication lines. If the latter than you have no chance.
Why?
It’s the opposite of that by my understanding. The HDMI adapter plugs into the Macbook, and then you can plug the USB-C charging cable into the adapter to charge the Macbook while also doing HDMI-out.
It would seem inescapable that the word “Vietnam” was written on the box by someone outside of Vietnam, possibly someone at Apple. The handwriting also works as a unique identifier.
I don’t think Apple is really clever enough anymore to bother with this sort of thing, but it seems like it would be child’s play to find out who the person in Vietnam was, who was supposed to receive that unit.
The serial number is clearly seen, it’s easy for them to track down.
I really like this Macbook, but the lack of magsafe charging is a BIG downer for me. Now it’s back to plugging chargers in.
I have the same sentiment. Just the other day my 1yr old yanked my wife’s 11″ MBA off the table, and that was WITH magsafe!
Considering the 11″ MBA weights .35lb MORE than the new MacBook, and that the magsafe did not “break” off, has me a little concerned about having a plug in power supply for the new MacBook.
I’m holding off a year or two to upgrade to it. Maybe (just maybe?) they might add MagSafe back?
You hit the nail on the head in what you said.. Everyone is complaining about no MagSafe however with a computer this light MagSafe will still yank the Macbook off the table. So not having MagSafe really isn’t a big deal in my opinion.
“Considering the 11″ MBA weights .35lb MORE than the new MacBook, and that the magsafe did not “break” off”
^ you answered your own question. If the magsafe didn’t work on a heavier notebook, its most certainly not going to work on an even lighter one.
I want Macbook could be charged when I fall asleep and during the day time I could use mouse or other removable device with USB type-C. It seems like Macbook’s battery is still not capable of a whole day’s usage, wish the later Macbook with Skylake CPU and DDR4 could achieve it.
I think the intended use-case is that, like our iPads and iPhones, you don’t use it while it’s plugged in. You use it unplugged, then when you’re done, plug it in overnight or whenever you’re not using it.
Agreed..
I suppose the consolation is that you won’t have to plug it in as much since the battery lasts so long.
Just trying to see the bright side of missing a truly unique and innovative feature.
I fount it interesting that it refused to boot
Ahem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnolSYfDz8w
It really looks very nice!
Why make a blog about the new Mac and then don’t share the video ?? IDIOT !!!
