Apple readies iBooks, Safari, Remote Desktop, and Mail bug fix updates for Mavericks

In addition to the incoming OS X Mavericks Mail Update that we reported on previously, sources say that Apple is readying a slew of performance and bug fix updates for several other OS X Mavericks applications. According to the updates seeded today to Apple employees, Apple is preparing updates for iBooks, Safari, and the Remote Desktop Client apps:

For iBooks, Apple says that the new version (1.0.1) “includes bug fixes and improvements to performance and stability.” iBooks is a new application in Mavericks that allows the reading and downloading of iBooks and iBooks Textbooks.

Apple is yet to specify to employees what the new Safari version entails, but is labeled as version 7.0.1. The slight version number increase indicates that this is a bug-fix and performance-focused release, not a new version with several new features. Safari in Mavericks gained slight interface tweaks and integration with Twitter and LinkedIn.

Apple says that the update to the Remote Desktop Client app (version 3.7.1) is “recommended for all Apple Remote Desktop clients and addresses several issues related to overall reliability, usability, and compatibility.”

As for the aforementioned OS X Mavericks Mail update, we now understand that it will be a dedicated patch that is likely not rolled into a OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 update. The update will be labeled “Mail Update for Mavericks 1.0,” and the release notes for Apple employees (and likely consumers) say: “this update improves stability and compatibility with Gmail, and includes fixes for users with custom Gmail settings.”

It’s uncertain when these updates will be released, but updates are typically rolled out to consumers within a few days to a couple of weeks following widespread internal testing.

I can’t sweep from one month to the other, or from one year to the other in Mavericks Calendar. Is there a trick or did they miss it? They should fix that!

  2. I hope they update iBooks so we can edit the metadata again like it was in iTunes.

I hope they get rid of the horrible useless dots in Tags and bring back the coloured Labels and coloured lines option for files and folders. I hate the new Tags…they wreck years of my workflow practice!!!

I hope they fix the Messages ‘always has focus’ bug with multiple monitors. Really annoying me when it randomly does it, I have to quit Messages and reopen it.

Widespread internal testing? Huh? Seems evident they don’t do any widespread internal testing!

Eagerly awaiting 10.9.1. I’m seeing missing triangles in Desktop list view, painful delays in desktop icon updating, sickening issues with external hard drives and this visual embarrassment: https://twitter.com/PeterTheta/status/397194187453759489

Do we know if they will update the server apps too which result in rapidly running out of application memory when using Profile Manager etc?

Words cannot describe how much I hate the ios7 safari. What was once my browser of choice is now a miserable and frustrating user experience. Despite reviewing the settings over and over again, the app fails to save any of my passwords. Will they fix that? Who knows but I’ve migrated back to chrome.

  9. mail update are out now

The ARD update 3.7.1 will most likely not happen for 2 reasons mainly. First being the fact that the 3.7 update was a major mess and completely broke the ARD application making it useless so the developers IF they are aware of this are probably re-thinking a small update to instead fix all this and make it a major update instead. Second of all, Apple is not prioritizing this application at all and Im not surprised if they are just postponing a fix and update until maybe sometime next year if they feel like it, even though they are fully aware of the problem they have caused with 3.7.. If you ask me Apple is getting more sloppy by the day and going down hill..

Guess what Apple … your ARD version 3.7.1 fixed NOTHING! I still can’t VNC into any of my workstations. Do you do ANY testing before releasing this garbage?
