Apple’s first Tokyo Apple Store opening since 2005 occurred today in the city of Omotesando. The new store features two floors and a fully glass exterior. Apple published a video showing preparations for the store earlier this week. As she promised in a memo to employees earlier today, Angela Ahrendts is on hand for the opening:

In the image above, she can be seen greeting some visitors to the store. As is tradition, Apple has been giving out gift t-shirts to the first customers in line to see the store. The lines are lengthy, and IFOAppleStore provides a map to put the size in context:

Here are some Tweets with images and videos that showcase the line:

I tish you not, but some commenter elsewhere said she looks like Tim Cook in a blonde wig. Hmmmm. Run that thought for a while.

How come someone isn’t saying that if Steve Jobs was alive, the line would have been much, much longer, maybe to even the outskirts of Tokyo? I’m sure the iHaters will turn this story into a negative, somehow. Like they all went for a free T-shirt and bought nothing or that line was really for a new beef ramen restaurant giving away extra portions to the first 1000 people on line or maybe a Hello Kitty cosplay contest.

“Angela Ahrendts in attendance” – hey, if I could take a trip to Japan on the company dime I’d be in attendance too.

Is no-one going to comment on the person with a cardboard apple over their head in the Angela picture?

  5. The Google stores opened to longer lines than this. Apple stole retail stores from Android!!
