Report: Seth Rogen will play Steve Wozniak in upcoming Steve Jobs film

Variety reports that actor Seth Rogen has been cast to play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak in the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic from Sony:

Seth Rogen has been set to star as Steve Wozniak opposite Christian Bale in Sony’s Steve Jobs biopic.

We learned earlier this month that Christian Bale, who starred in the recent Batman trilogy, will portray Steve Jobs in the Aaron Sorkin directed film. Sorkin later confirmed the report adding that Christian Bale didn’t have to audition for the role in the film.

While the Sony-backed film is being written by Aaron Sorkin, Danny Boyle will be directing the upcoming biopic.

Before Bale was confirmed to play the role of Steve Jobs in the film, actor Leonardo DiCaprio was set to play the role of the famous Apple co-founder, although he reportedly dropped out of the role before filming began.

In the 2013-released Steve Jobs biopic starring Ashton Kutcher, the role of Steve Wozniak was played by actor Josh Gad. Rogen has played in various roles including Pineapple Express, Knocked Up, and Superbad.

I think Seth will make a great Woz.

We need a Woz movie. Without him there would have been no Apple Computer and he seems like a more personable guy than Jobs. Engineers always get the short end of the stick.

To that, we also need a Sir Jony Ive movie.

Not quite true. As much as I hate to say it, Jobs was the one that makes Woz’s magical stuff happens. Then again, neither one was any less or more important and so was the rest of the folks that came onboard. It’s team work after all. If Woz was the key, so was a bunch of other people, but those folks didn’t get high on drugs, travelled to India to seek the truth and suffered from “betrayal” and kicked out of the company that he co-founded, and refuses to marry his pregnant girlfriend, or had next to no furniture at home. Basically, lack of the ‘drastic’ drama in their lives, which will not make the movie any attractive. So my conclusion is, two key factors that makes a good story: the person is (or was) a key figure (prolific, i would say) and he or she has/had a very dramatic life. Those plus, if the person is no longer alive, that my friend, is a story and would (probably) sell. A book on Woz, maybe, I just don’t see a movie.

Time for Seth to start eating.

The film is directed by Danny Boyle of Slumdog fame, Aaron Sorkin penned the script.

Here was me hoping Rogan was typecast as the blundering fat fool. I guess he gets a break.

It is enoughto turn me off watching the movie. I am not sure Steve Jobs movies are a great idea anyway.

  8. I wish Seth Rogen were writing the movie.

Shaping up to be the best cast ever for a movie that will be a dud like all the others about Jobs. I’ll see it just so I can pan it, like all the other train wrecks.

I wonder if RuPaul will play Tim Cook. Too soon?

  11. Seems like an odd choice to me. Woz is not a “funny person”. Think most would expect Rogen to be his usual funny self. But this whole movie seems like a bad idea if you ask me – Which you didn´t, but still :-)

Good. Christian Bale is such a dick. Why don’t they use some no-name? I don’t want some “famous” personality” getting in the way of portraying Steve Jobs. (“Hmm . . . Michael Fassbender sure des a bad Steve Jobs . . .”)
