Bloomberg is reporting that Apple is planning its first new store in Tokyo since 2005.
Apple plans to open a store in Tokyo’s upscale Omotesando shopping district as early as March, according to a person familiar with the plans.
Construction is scheduled to be completed by February, the person said, asking not to be identified because they aren’t authorized to speak for Apple.
Tokyo is noted for its high land values. Bloomberg estimating the cost of the land at around $164M with the finished store expected to be worth a staggering $256M …
We noted back in January that Apple is relocating its Tokyo HQ to the Roppongi Hills complex.
Le Parisien says that Apple is planning a third Paris store in a chic area on the Left Bank in a building currently home to a shopping mall.
An Apple Store will open there in Saint-Germain-des-Prés (VI)? Eight months after the rumor about a possible takeover of Virgin’s flagship on the Champs-Elysée.
Current tenants are said to have staggered leaving dates between next month and the end of March next year.

Also in China Apple Store news, it appears that Apple is staffing up for a new store in the region of Chongqing.

Ifostore, a self-described “Apple retail store enthusiast”, tweeted the news from Apple’s site that the company’s store in the Euroma2 shopping mall is opening at 10am on Saturday.

Finally, in Switzerland, MacPrime reports that Apple has suspended plans for a new store in Berne when it was unable to reach agreement with the current tenants of the building in Bern Market Street.
Apple now serves a million customers a day across more than 400 stores.

Still no Apple Store for Ireland yet. Really wish Apple would work on opening one store in each country before adding additional stores to countries and sometimes even cities that already have one or more stores.
Really frustrating not being able to deal with certain problems at a local store and needing to send damaged devices back to Apple.

It’s nice to see them continuing to open stores globally. It makes me wonder if they’ve ever closed a location (other than to reopen it nearby)?
I’m still hoping for one on Maui (my home). There are 3 within a couple miles of each other in Honolulu on Oahu, but none here. I’m also hoping for one in Thailand soon (where I visit often). It’s not Shanghai, Hong Kong, or Singapore, but it’s become fairly affluent and cosmopolitan in the last 10 years.
