Reports are coming in from several journalists attending the Apple vs. Samsung re-trial in California that a verdict has been reached. The verdict comes after a few days of the jury deliberating much of the same topic as discussed during the summer 2012 trial. According to a court document, the verdict will be read at approximate 12:15 Pacific time. We’ll have coverage when the verdict is announced.
Update: According to Bloomberg, the jury has ordered that Samsung pay Apple $290 million in damages over the retrial. Including damages awarded Apple in the original trial, that brings Samsung’s total in damages owed to Apple to $890 million.
It’s worth noting Apple originally argued for $379 million during the partial retrial so the total sum is less than that which the company originally requested, but that’s significantly greater than the $52 million which Samsung recommended it pay.
That’s still $110 million shy of the original $1 billion initially awarded before the court decided it could have miscalculated the damages appropriate for the patent dispute.
Attorneys on both sides will have an opportunity 30 minutes from the original reading of the verdict to discuss anything final before the trail finally (hopefully) wraps up.
Update 2: The jury and everyone involved was dismissed after 4:15 PM EST without additional news being made aside from a $2 discrepancy Apple’s attorneys found in its favor that was thankfully dismissed.

Update 3: Apple has offered the following comment to AllThingsD:
“For Apple, this case has always been about more than patents and money,” Apple said in a statement to AllThingsD. “It has been about innovation and the hard work that goes into inventing products that people love. While it’s impossible to put a price tag on those values, we are grateful to the jury for showing Samsung that copying has a cost.”

Regardless of judgements Samsung will never pay.
Maybe but their image sure does :).
This doesn’t make me like my Galaxy any less, I promise. But it does make me think less of Apple (if that’s possible).
Adam, why would it make you think less of Apple, knowing that they weren’t the bad guys here? Samsung stole from Apple. Should they not be punished? What part of that don’t you get?
@André Hedegaard Petersen
Apple stole from LG, whats your point? Remember the LG Prada? It was in production way before the first iPhone. The store is out there. Apple stole from LG , Samsung Stole from Apple, Apple store from Android & Blackberry ( Features such as Notification center, Messaging app, a few icons look a like ( Old IOS) & more).
Either way, Samsung giving Apple lets say 1 Billion is nothing to them. Samsung Makes more then Apple in everything they own. Remember, Samsung makes TVs, DVD / Blue ray players, Fridges, Freezers, Speakers, Home theater systems, cameras, washers & dryers, dishwashers, vacuums ( Yes its in the states) & more. They will make that cash back within a month or so.
The Galaxy line has been growing & i see more people either getting the Galaxy line & HTC ( & some Blackberries) then iPhones now. Not saying iPhone is dead but it will slowly dying if Apple doesn’t do anything to WOW the people. Adding Gold color & making people wait 2+ months for one is outrages.
@ Dimiti
All of that which you wrote has nothing at all to do with THIS court case.
I wonder why LG/Prada never sued Apple? Is it because there was no bias to do so? Meaning they would have lost, or perhaps a deal was worked out with Apple behind closed doors?
In any case, it has nothing to do with this case.
@André Hedegaard Petersen
It does this because it shows that Apple has stolen from others many times before. Why did they not sue? Go read it up & see for your self ;). The facts are out there. Also if LG would have sued Apple, i am sure LG would have won as the patents where never in Apples hands & neither were half of them until the trial started & all this stupidity.
Also Apple are the bad boys here as well. They are not going to court for ” innovation”. They are going to court to get money / take down a enemy because they know that Samsung could have easily sued them.
Even if apple gets the 1 billion ( rounding it up to that number), Apple is no where near where Samsung is as a company & we all know this. Yes Apple makes over priced phones that they can not even make enough for. Yes Apple brainwashes people to buy their phones. In the end tho, they are taking the enemy out with anyway they can. They aren’t doing this to show that Apple made something.
@ Dimitri
Steve Jobs said in 2007 with the iPhone launch about multi-touch “Boy have we patented this”. So am sure the other companies would have had a patent out or the patent office wouldn’t have granted Apple the patent. As per the LG Prada, this was not a multi touch screen, just the shape is similar.
It does not matter what Samsung makes in vacuum cleaners and TV’s e.t.c. so long as they innovate and not copy Apple. Even look at the icons, my goodness, even laymen can see its “the same”.
I don’t think Apple brainwashes anyone. I bought my first Apple product in 2010 (iPad) and since then I see that their products “just work” unlike all the others that crashes and freezes just you take them out your pocket. I’m not a fan-boy, I just support companies that “came first with innovation”. This is why I buy Levi’s jeans, because they were first to invent them, unlike Diesel and all the rest of copy cats.
I totally agree with André Hedegaard Petersen said to Dimitri, and I do agree with that since 2007. I’d write something pretty much like he did, but he’s already done it.
They will pay. They wouldn’t want to get into any more trouble that may cause their products to be banned.
We can only hope for a ban on products that infringe copyright.
The law doesn’t work like that. If someone gets a judgment and you decide not to pay there are well know avenues like liens that can be deployed to make your life a living hell. Pay what you owe.
