It’s no secret that Apple’s Late 2013 Mac Pro looks strikingly similar to a (really futuristic, shiny, insanely great) trash can; take a look for yourself. You can even replace the Trash icon on your OS X Dock with a… Mac Pro. Let’s just agree there’s a certain…resemblance.
That inspired one Apple fan to build a Hackintosh based on the new Mac Pro design using, yes, an actual trash can (specifically, an Authenics Lunar <–check scale) for the casing. The result isn’t exactly as powerful as the Mac Pro sold today by Apple; this specific build lacks Thunderbolt support and its processor is a Haswell i3 that you might find in a much cheaper PC.
Nevertheless, the final product is down right fascinating to see. Check it out below:

Ok..this is SAD.
It is really a good idea can you please consider the possibility of doing that with a simplehuman semi-round stainless steel trash can. the trash is here simplehuman stainless steel trash can
The biggest advantage of this model is that it comes with a matching toilet brush. http://www.amazon.de/Authentics-Toilettenb%C3%BCrste-Lunar-hellgrau/dp/B005QNT7FA/ref=pd_sim_k_4
I’m not trying to belittle the person who built this project because I think they put a lot of effort into building this Mac Pro look-alike computer and I give them props for doing it. However… compared to an actual Mac Pro it doesn’t even come close to the internal design which is what the new Mac Pro is all about. The solid aluminum tri-core design of the Mac Pro is unmistakable genius. Obviously this look-alike is just a kludge with a terribly underpowered i3 processor. This is what I would expect from the copycats like Asus, Acer and Lenovo as an answer to Apple’s elegant Mac Pro design.
Agreed.
this is what I would expect from a $500 DIY project answer to a multi-million R&D team
That is awesome. Just awesome. I hear the sound of a collective THUD from fainting lemmings.
…and it doesn’t cost $10,000 to check Twitter either.
“Look… me and the McDonald’s people got this little misunderstanding. See, they’re McDonald’s… I’m McDowell’s. They got the Golden Arches, mine is the Golden Arcs. They got the Big Mac, I got the Big Mick. We both got two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions, but their buns have sesame seeds. My buns have no seeds.”
hahahahahahahahahaha
Not looking to hate, kudos for the effort, but that thing will overheat in minutes with any real load.
Not with that piddly little i3 CPU. If you stuck a hex core Xeon in there, then yes.
Futuristic, Rubbermaid makes a trash can similar to the Mac Pro

How convenient! When the novelty has worn off and you’re tired of the 100MB/s from that 2.5″ laptop hard drive, all you have to do is unplug the computer and its already in the receptacle! Who needs 20Gb/s external expansion or 900MB/s from your primary storage or processing power greater than a Macbook Air or graphical power to run Halo CE.
It’s actually a R2-D2 minus the limbs. :)
Looks like trash in a trash can. Not even close to the new Mac Pro from Apple except for the outside shell, sort of.
call it a hunch, but i think the look of the mac pro was really all he was going for. i don’t think he really thought it was as powerful. you really didn’t get that?
Jesus what a bunch of snobs. This guy obviously just wanted something to check email and Facebook on. He obviously didn’t build it to be a Hackintosh equivalent to a Mac Pro or to do any heavy lifting. It’s a fun project and I say props to him for having fun with a hobby. Maybe he didn’t have the money for something more powerful or maybe he didn’t need anything more powerful. Come down off your golden pedestals and appreciate it for what it is. Good job dude.
I laughed at the toilet brush and Coming to America posts. Those were more poking fun than being outride rude to the guy.
P.S. to site admins: Twitter login isn’t working (for me anyway). It just opens up a new tab that never loads twitter.
I respect your comments. The other commenters are very aggressive towards the modder as a person instead of focusing on the project; and those who attack the design of this mod only spend money for salvation, they likely don’t make things with their own hands or they’d know how hard it is to do and do well costs $. Typical Apple Mac behavior really.
You’re my hero. To build a Trashcan like this is impossible for me.
