Popular RSS client Reeder was largely affected by Google’s abrupt shutdown of Google Reader earlier last year as it raced to update its various apps support for alternative RSS subscription services.
Reeder for iOS gained support for services like Feedly and Feed Wrangler pretty quickly last year, but Reeder for Mac has taken a bit longer than had originally been anticipated.
Today, Reeder 2 for Mac is available in its first public beta for free ahead of its final development.
The Mac app has replaced Google Reader syncing with modern alternatives including Feedbin, Feedly, Feed Wrangler, and Fever; as with the iOS apps, you can also use it independently for local RSS management without syncing.
Reeder 2 for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch is currently available on the App Store for $4.99.
Reeder 2 for Mac is expected to be a paid app once it leaves the beta stage; the free public beta is currently available here.

I’m glad to see that the developer has resumed working on this app. I used it every day until Google killed Google Reader. I switched to ReadKit soon after I started using Fever hosted from my own website. The iOS versions support Fever. I’m happy to see that the new Mac beta does too. I really didn’t want to switch RSS readers, since all of the alternatives that I tried, except ReadKit sucked.
Reeder 2 shows where Apple is taking the next OSX. Fluid, alive and flat
Really? Has Apple announced that? I must have missed it. Rumors are fun to read about and to discuss, but until Apple announces something, I don’t put much stock in any of this.
I used Reeder (and still do in iOS) but since it took so long to get the Mac client working I’ve been using Feedly directly through a browser and don’t see a need anymore for a dedicated RSS client. I have downloaded the beta and it does seem good though.
I used the first reeder & got left high and dry, and now I am being asked to buy it all over again. This is completely wrong, I got ripped off once, & now yet again. Please do not reward this person for being so unjust!
