We’ve seen a lot of images, renders, schematics, and videos of the expected 4.7-inch version of the iPhone 6, but relatively little on its rumored larger brother, a 5.5-inch model.
This crude 3D-printed mockup posted to RocketNews24 makes no claims to be anything more than an illustration of what a 5.5-inch iPhone 6 would look like in terms of size, both in the hand and compared to an iPhone 5S, but does do a good job of turning the abstract dimension into something concrete.
Based on claimed design drawings, the mockup measures 157mm long, 77mm wide and 6.7mm thick.
Check out the full gallery below.
In a previous poll, 30 percent of you planned to buy the larger model, while 60 percent were more interested in the 4.7-inch version. Now you have a sense of what the size could translate to in the hand, do your plans remain the same? Let us know in the comments.

is it just me or is this strangely reminiscent of the iPhone 5 mockups that showed up for months based on leaked schematics and ended up being complete vaporware…no iPhone 5 was even released at that time, instead the 4S. Seriously, why do we take these “leaked schematics” with any more credibility?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but schematics never actually leaked for that. What I remember was, The Verge reported the next iPhone would have a teardrop shape with a larger display. That whole thing started it. Then case manufacturers created molds based on schematics “they acquired from trusted sources.” But the schematics they supposedly saw never leaked online. The only thing we saw was the mold a particular case manufacturer had made. And that was basically it.
This time around, very detailed 3D schematics and CAD drawings have leaked online. The schematics look far too detailed and too much thought put into it to be some amateur trying to fool everyone. It very much looks like something Jony Ive and team would have made. Its far too intricate and complicated (in my opinion) for an amateur to make. I work with sheetmetal and understand what I’m looking at, and the whole mechanical design of the antenna portions with the aluminum “inlays” actually being milled directly on the rest of the back enclosure, looks incredibly sophisticated. The most recent schematics that leaked a few days ago show more detail with the antenna assembly, and these mockups floating around have the whole “antenna line” completely wrong.
for everyday use, 5.5 is too big even I am reading all email and graphic and pix. It makes no sense to me, if I want a bigger size. I would jump to iPad or iPad mini. 4.7 is more acceptable as a phone size or 5.0 will be max for me.
4.5/4.7 i am OK with, but not 5.5!!
Yea, 4.7 for me – 5.5 could work but the requirement to have a home button makes this mythical phone ridiculously long.
I’m still very much excited about the 5.5″ phone. I’ll admit that I’m far-from-average though: when my hand is fully outstretched, it’s about 9.5 inches from the tip of my pinky to the tip of my thumb. I’m similarly large in most other dimensions, so I’m not concerned about it fitting in a pocket, etc. I just hope that they *announce* it at the same time as the 4.7″ model, so I don’t have to delay a purchase in order to see whether or not they’ll actually release the 5.5″ version.
Of course, my whole attitude will change if they do the 3x multiplier thing being discussed in another post this morning, or if the 4.7″ and 5.5″ versions have the same resolution: a larger screen without the ability to display more information on that screen is utterly pointless.
Oh you!
I completely agree. I have hands like a catchers glove! Over 10 inches from wrist to finger tip. I really do need a large phone. Since I only buy quality, top notch phones iPhone is the only choice for me (plastic Samsung phones or any other phones with shoddy Android OS’s don’t qualify).
Thanks, crude mockup, for proving me right.
While I will likely get the 4.7 and am intrigued by the 5.5 because I don’t use an iPad, just my macbook and iPhone. I bought and returned an iPad because it just didn’t fit in my daily workflow. So a 5.5 could be like a mini iPad mini with the benefit of not needing another data plan for an iPad. I do read a lot on my phone so the 5.5 is interesting. Will probably need to see it in person before making a final decision.
I dont like this supposed iPhone 6. One of the (many) reasons I dont buy a Galaxy is it’s size. They’re too big! They even dont fit in the pocket. If I want something this big, I’ll buy an iPad.
The proposed 4.7″ model is barely bigger than the current 5S, and it’s an iPhone 6 as well.
I have huge hands and huge feet so I’m sure you can guess what the next size iPhone 6 I will get.
I fear Apple’s obsession with excessive thinness will end up costing us large bezels making the phone bigger than it needs to be. The thinner the devices get, the larger they need to be in order to fit what needs to be inside. I’d rather see the iPhone 6 have the same thickness as the 5s, but have very small Moto X like bezels around the 4.7″ screen with the exception of the bottom where the home button needs to fit.
Oh for the love of God, puhleese release a phone this size… I can finally leave my iPad at home and carry ONE device!!
I’ve wanted the 5.5 inch all along. Almost got the Note 3, then I smacked some sense into myself.
If the only difference is size, then I will go for the 4.7. But I have read some rumors about the 5.5 having more fancy things (NFC ?) and being more high end. If it is the case then I will need probably to reconsider my choice. Anyway I expect Apple to reveal their plan on September about this 5.5.
Bring me more mockups! Woo! :D
i made a quick video on how to pick the correct size iphone 6 for you, i also recommend you add some cardboard behind it, to give you a idea on how it fits in your pocket.
