Earlier this year we reported that Apple had ordered a record number of iPhone 6 units for the upcoming launch of the next-gen device. According to TechCrunch, the number of devices being shipped from China is so high that Apple is actually causing shipping delays for other companies.
Just how bad are the delays? According to a source from one unnamed electronics manufacturer, some companies have been told they’ll miss their shipping deadlines because a certain high-priority customer has essentially taken over the shipping channels.
This type of thing has happened to Apple before, sometimes intentionally. The launch of products like the iMac G3 and iPod previously prompted the company to purchase all available shipping space to ensure timely deliveries and maximum stock for customers, leading competitors in the same situation.
Apple is planning to announce the iPhone 6 in two variants next week, with recent rumors indicating that an iPad upgrade may also be in the works. While a smart watch is expected to be shown off during the event, it isn’t expected to ship until early 2015, so it seems unlikely that this is one of the devices causing so much trouble for Apple’s competitors.

Apple with the pro strats
i actually love this mock up of the Iphone 6 since the camera isn’t protruding off the back
And the “string bikini” design looks cleaner and more minimalist on this false rendering. Kind of like that Brazilian version of the classic string bikini, aka the tanga. :)
I really hope the ugly lines aren’t on the iPhone. iPhone’s have always stood out for me for their design. I’m sure Apple could find a way to improve cellular reception than having to resort to this kind of design.
The lines look great. Big improvement over the big glass panels. Apple knows what they are doing and have top people researching and developing the best ways for their product and original designs.
We thought the back-plating on the 5 was terrible until it came out. The gaps on the metal band of the 4 was something Steve would never allow! Then we found out what they were for. All we’ve seen is speculative mockups and unfinished reject parts from the factory. We’ll finally get to see a real finished product in four days.
You can always get a case.
I still hate the iPhone 5 design. The solid colour, all glass back of the 4/4S was my favourite design. Having said that, I would prefer if the 6 had the glass panels of the 5/5S instead of metal. Either way, I prefer a solid back, metal or glass, preferably glass.
@Steve Grenier I wish they went back to the glass back of the 4/4S. it looked so much cleaner.
Do you have any idea about the physical restrictions that humans can’t deal with?
apple domination 101 :D
Shipping record numbers, they better hope thry can sell them.
I don’t mean to be condescending. Though you really think there is any “hope” involved. We all know Apple will sell them. Very easily. The first batch of iPhones will be just that, the first. They will make many many more and they will sell. I’m sensing record breaking sales.
Modern Day Apple has NEVER had a problem selling product! I’m the counting days until we actually get to see what’s been leaked / rumoured / anticipated / debated / loved / hated / ripped apart / praised, etc. My big decision will be which physical size fits my hand and lifestyle.
And as far as booking the shipping companies – Apple must be pretty certain that they can meet the dates they booked – or their on the hook for a lot of cargo space that will remain costly but empty.
I;ve never heard of Samesung booking all the available cargo room on all the available cargo flights!
These shipping companies sure come up with a lot of nonsense by blaming Apple for shipping delays. That’s something that has to do with the shipping companies not being able to allocate shipments properly.
This is the initial shipment. they will sell every last one of them. plus there is alot of pent up demand for this phone. they will break all previous records.
That’s an ugly mock-up, Apple!!!
If anybody wants to see the new 5.5 inch iPhone 6, go to gsmnation.com and scroll to the last phone for sale. It is an unlocked iPhone 6 for sale at $749. Looks great but don’t ask me if it’s the real thing. Sure looks like it though.
I wouldn’t count on it. The GN4 rendering they have isn’t the real thing, and that phone is already released
I personally like this render with the black bands on silver. I think the others with the matched color are fine too. The white bands were disgusting. Simple evolution of my thoughts on the evolution of mockups.
You say ” leading competitors in the same situation.” I think you mean “leaving.”
it looks like a HTC
