Apple releases Safari 8.0.1, 7.1.1, and 6.2.1 betas, Thunderbolt Display firmware update 1.2

Apple issued pre-release versions of Safari for OS X Mountain Lion, Mavericks, and Yosemite today for developers. The Safari beta versions include Safari 8.0.1, 7.1.1, and 6.2.1 for OS X 10.10, 10.9, and 10.8, respectively.

As part of the pre-release software, Apple asks users to focus on these areas for testing:

• General website compatibility
• Extension compatibility
• WebGL graphics on Retina displays
• Password AutoFill when passwords are synchronized across multiple devices • Syncing history between devices (OS X Yosemite only)
• Importing usernames and passwords from Firefox (OS X Yosemite only)

In addition to the latest Safari for OS X betas, Apple also released a firmware update for Thunderbolt Display users. The latest firmware update, version 1.2, is intended to correct “a rare issue that may cause the display to go black” and improve reliability when connecting other devices.

Just applied the Thunderbolt firmware. Didn’t fix the issue. My displays still turn black randomly (and frequently).

Hopefully it solves the problem that causes my audio on my TB Display to corrupt in some apps (FCPx particularly).

  3. Looks like they pulled the Thunderbolt firmware update. All I get is a blank page.

Tried using Safari this week, not using it any more. Why? I installed all the ad blockers available but nothing will stop ads in flash video, which are, for me, intolerable. Also, when I close a tab and want to open another immediately, Safari instantly resizes all the tabs so I have to do a nervous jitterbug mouse pointer dance to get to the ‘new tab’ icon, which would’ve been in place otherwise (as it is with Opera, for example). Finally, the so-called Top Sites are in a constant state of flux. If the app is not full screen the thumbnail images can be narrow and bad to look at. I want a set of sites there that I can quickly peruse and use, and that is constant and arranged by me, not arbitrarily by the browser. So I continue to use Opera, the best browser out there right now. No Google Chrome spying paranoia, no Firefox kiddy nonsense etc., the list goes on.
