Following the release of HBO’s new HBO Now app for its $14.99/month standalone streaming service, today the company updated its main HBO GO app with a similar, long-awaited redesign.
Here’s what HBO GO looked like prior to today’s update (left) next to the new design (right):
And here’s a look at the new design on iPad:
You’ll notice the design takes a lot after the new HBO Now app released exclusively on Apple devices in April.
Unlike HBO’s new HBO Now app that gives iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV users access to the network’s shows for $14.99/month, HBO GO is for subscribers through cable companies and requires authentication of a TV provider account.
The updated HBO GO app, version 3.0.0, is available on the App Store now.
What’s New in Version 3.0.0
• Introduced a new enhanced design experience focused on ease of navigation and application usability
• Minor bug fixes

Slow Apple news day.
I’ve found some audio issues when airplaying HBO NOW to ATV2G. Sound will trail behind the video sometimes by a few seconds. A pause will bring it back in sync but annoying sometimes.
Cool! Hopefully they update that gawd awful design on the HBOGO website too.
Hopefully they’ll update the NOW app on the Apple TV. It sucks. Needs to be more like Netflix with a recently watched tab, recommendations, better/functioning subtitles, and autoplay for next episodes.
With the Airplay update to HBO GO, the app now has broken Bluetooth functionality. Anytime you try to play content using an iOS device and Bluetooth headphones or speakers, the app thinks it’s streaming to an Apple TV and blacks out the screen on your device. This is a major bug that should have been discovered and fixed before the update was pushed out. It’s amazing to think that a company as big into digital content as HBO would utterly fail to test Bluetooth functionality, especially given the fact that the update’s biggest selling point was the addition of Airplay. Epic fail on HBO’s part.
Behaves the same for me, bluetooth headphones were working fine until this update.
HBO Now worked fine for the first month here in Hawaii, but in the second (paid) month it is now not working via my satellite internet provider Exede. I am assuming Exede/Viasat/WildBlue has coverage outside of the US so that HBO Now is saying program is not available outside U.S. I am finding other Exede customers in rural areas in the middle of the country are having similar problems. HBO is supposedly working on a solution but it is almost three weeks now. I am able to get programming by using the data program on my AT&T wireless service, but that is capped and expensive.
