CBS’s channel Showtime is now available on Apple TV. The company this morning began rolled out its version of the service that does not require a cable subscription. Instead, users simply pay $11 per month for the service, after a 30-day free trial.
In addition to coming to Apple TV, a new Showtime app that does not require a cable login is also hitting the iOS App Store. The app is not live yet, although it should rollout soon. The same $11/mo charge applies to it, as well. HBO’s standalone service costs $14.99, for comparison’s sake.
Last year, Showtime Anytime came to Apple TV but required a cable login to be able to watch any content. The app allowed cable subscribers that pay for packages that include the channel to access on-demand content through the set top box. Showtime announced its plans for a standalone Apple TV channel earlier this year, saying that it would launch this month. As of right now, Showtime is available exclusively on the Apple TV now, but will come to other set-top boxes, such as Roku and Sony’s Vue service later this week.
The app is rolling out to Apple TV units now and should hit the App Store at some point in the near future. Apple has also launched a new webpage to showcase Showtime.

If you have Hulu it’s worth mentioning you can add on this service for $8.99
is that right? Hmm I wonder if theirs commercials.
Is Showtime any good?
Do they have a free 30 day trial like HBO?
“…users simply pay $11 per month for the service, after a 30-day free trial.” … you would have known if you would have read the first paragraph instead of just the headline.
So, how much is it per month? ;)
The irony is that it’s even in the picture lol. I get that words are difficult for some people, but pictures!?
Does this give you current shows | movies or is it just access to older shows (archives)?
yep, current shows & movies, archives, live (East or West channel available). I started my free 30-day trial.
The Sho A time apps have always had the live east and west coast streams. I wish HBO had live channel streaming. I think Showtime has had their apps right for a long time and no the standalone option builds upon that.
Is there Live Viewing like the Showtime Anytime app?
So Netflix had to do it first before HBO/Showtime would jump in. I remember when the major stations (CBS/ABC/NBC) and all the major cable networks said Netflix would never last.
How the tables have turned. Netflix’s in the driver’s seat right now.
And yet again USA only, come on Apple what about the AppleTV users outside the US. I’m getting tired, going to another device like Google Chromecast.
It’s not Apple. The carriers are the ones who decide where their apps will be available. Usually either the content provider approaches Apple or the other way around. Once there is an agreement then it is the content provider who decides the location.
There are ways.
So more content for those in the USA but for us here in the UK and Europe what will we get? Another useless option with not very interesting content. Come on Apple there are users outside the USA in one of your biggest markets here in Europe.
Apple doesn’t own Showtime of HBO. They can make them make their content available in other countries.
Yes they can. They can force them to do so, for company like Apple it is not good to sell apple tv all over the world with limited functionality
Another stuff only for Americans…..:/
All these dumb people that think Apple can force any company to offer their services anywhere and everywhere they want. There are a ton of legalities they have to sort out before they can offer any service, and then, it’s ultimately up to the content providers/owners to decide if they want to offer their services.
Pay is finally coming to the UK, but guess what, Barclays is not offering it to its customers. It’s not Apple’s fault.
Apple have in fact infinite amount of dollars. So yes, they can force them – legality is not an issue, it’s only a matter of negotiations and in this lots of money can help.
According to Pay – Sooner or later Barclays realize his mistake.
And sooner or later Apple will pay a lot for not forcing 3rd parties to accept their terms.
in my country iphones shoud be cheaper. Why have I to pay more money then americanc, having less salary for product with limited functionality?????
Before saying someone is dumb please consider what whould happen if Apple Music had been available only in USA…
