Microsoft’s new Universal Foldable Keyboard, first unveiled earlier this year, is now available to purchase online and through Microsoft stores. The super portable Bluetooth keyboard folds in half when not in use and allows users to connect to two mobile devices at once including iPhones, iPads, Android, and Windows devices.
Microsoft notes that the keyboard has full-size keys, a spill-resistant, water-repellent keyboard and outer material, and a built-in rechargeable battery that will get you around three months of use on a charge. There’s also an “OS” button for switching between connected devices. Here’s a closer look at the keyboard:
The Microsoft Universal Foldable Keyboard is available for $100 on Amazon, and it’s also available through Microsoft retail stores and online.
Microsoft made a new video for today’s launch to show off some of the keyboard’s features and its compact, 5mm thin design:

Could I use this with a Mac? I don’t see why it wouldn’t work, but it doesn’t list OS X.
It shows command/option keys which are unique to Apple devices, so I’d say it’s designed for Macs specifically. With that said, I can’t justify $100 for a bluetooth keyboard.
Yes, it will work fine on any devices and computers using Bluetooth 4. You can’t legally say it is Bluetooth 4 compatible and not have it work with other devices using Bluetooth 4.
So, as long as your Mac supports BT4, you’re okay.
As for shareef777, that’s fine but it is not a just a bluetooth keyboard, you’re talking about an extremely portable keyboard and the more thin they have, the more precise they have to be, thus more expensive it gets. This is a good price.
The Microsoft store in Cincinnati does not yet have it in stock, told me they have an ETA of about the 20th. I had hoped to try it out today.
I currently use a Logitech K480 which allows me to connect to three devices by bluetooth and it has a holder for tablets or phones so you don’t need a kickstand for the devices. The only issue I have is that there’s no pageup, pagedown, home, end or printscreen keys on it. but it only cost like $50 CAD. I’d have problems with the split keyboard as my brain expects the keys to be close to each other, haha. I’ve been using it for about 7 hours a day for 4.5 months now and the batteries are still good. Works with iOS, Mac, Windows and Android.
Is 9to5Mac plan to review this? It would be nice to see what you guys think of it. I have a TextBlade on order and want to try that before buying any other keyboards.
I’m not quite sure how the fn/cmd combo is supposed to work. Both keys are pretty important if you’re a touch typist.
