Apple releases OS X 10.11 El Capitan beta 4 to developers

Apple today has released the fourth developer preview of OS X 10.11 El Capitan. The operating system carries the build number 15A226f. Two weeks ago, the company pushed the third beta build to developers after initially introducing the operating system at WWDC last month. Beta 3 brought about a variety of minor changes, including changes to Mission Control, the Photos app, and the Calendar app.

In addition to allowing developers to test El Capitan, Apple is also offering public beta of the operating system and will also make it available to all retail employees to try.

As new features and changes are discovered in OS X El Capitan beta 4, we’ll update this post. Last month, we broke down some of the features in iOS 9 and OS X 10.11 El Capitan and noted some improvements Apple could make to the functionality of the features before launch later this year.

– You can no longer quickly swipe between desktops. You now have to fully stop at each Space.

Not showing up in the mac appstore and code already redeemed in developer portal? Is it just a delay or something else?

Finder: sidebar is still broken… It goes back to be super small even when you changed the size of it, has been there since Beta 3 (not in the first two betas though!)

Spotlight: Seems like the results are not including everything that is on my mac… Some apps just wont show up in Spotlight, althouth they are within the Applications folder… :-/

When trying to save documents within random Apps (Photoshop CS6, Pages eg.), the spinning ball comes up for at least 10 seconds before the actual finder windows shows up…

    Anybody experienced the same bugs?

It seems like they’ve fixed Search functionality in Finder but sidebar is still broken for me.
I am also experiencing the same bug with Spotlight but not that one with saving documents.
Developer Tools in Safari were also improved – there’s a new tab “Network”.
In Maps app, there is now an option called “Email Preferences…”, IDK if this option is new.
Indicator of “Storage” is still broken for me – it shows over 75 GB of “Other” data, nothing more, nothing less.

Have you reported the bugs, using the Feedback Assistant?

      • Toby Schuster - 9 years ago

I cannot swipe between my fullscreen apps. Great beta!

I can swipe perfectly between fullscreen apps… so it might not be linked to the beta.

Hi, dunno if you noticed that but it is possible to hide menu bar now. It is hidden in menu under switch to dark UI mode. Seems weird but I think it is super useful feature.

“– You can no longer quickly swipe between desktops. You now have to fully stop at each Space.”

I noticed this immediately, and it hurts my productivity. I truly hope this is a bug.

You have to stop at each space for 3 finger swipe, but the ctrl+arrow options still allows for fast switching. Still, the ability to toggle the feel of the swiping would be great.

I had some problems with El Capitan which I reported of course. Bluetooth does not pair with iPhones. I could not modify the information on a NTFS formatted hard drive any more. Firefox crashed too many times when I was watching a movie using flashplayer. System would not come out of standby in El Capitan. I have rolled back to Yosemite because of too much hassle. I wonder if you guys have these issues with the new beta version as well. Thx.

    Disk Utility looks different ;)

The Disk Utility GUI has changed. The option for burning DVDs/CDs is not present any more. It does not show the unpartitioned area either.
