Apple has released the OS X 10.10.5 software update to OS X Yosemite for all users. The update mentions improvements to “stability, compatibility, and security” while also highlighting specific fixes for Mail, Photos, and QuickTime Player apps. Previously, Apple tested the software release with developers and public beta testers. The update is available for all users through the Updates tab of the Mac App Store.
According to the release notes, OS X Update 10.10.5 “improves compatibility with certain email servers when using Mail,” “fixes an issue in Photos that prevented importing videos from GoPro cameras,” and “fixes an issue in QuickTime Player that prevented playback of Windows Media files”.

After updating both OS X (10.10.5) and iTunes (12.2.2.25) my MacBook Pro Retina (mid 2012) is running above 5000 rpm on both fans. And that is by just running Safari, Mail and AirFoil.
You Can download MacFanControl to rev down your Fan’s RPM.
True, but he shouldn’t have to. A Retina contains Apple-branded flash, not third-party.
Safari seems snappier, other than that I can’t tell a difference.
I lost all my Mail setting: Accounts, Signatures, VIPs, Folders-Everything. I had to reset everything.
My Mac Mini Server with super awful 5400 1Tb drives has been painfully sluggish since I bought it, almost unusable. Strangely, after upgrading, things seem to be working much better. In particular login was faster and I could get to work literally 10 minutes sooner. The huge problems seemed to be CrashPlan and Dropbox, which took forever to finish “Starting up…”. I was amazed when Dropbox started up and was up to date in 10 seconds instead of 10 minutes. Also I could open apps right away. Also the Mac was literally crashing and rebooting regularly for no apparent reason. I sent crash reports to Apple with some unpleasant language about how poorly the OS was working. It was so much more like Windows than OS X that I was considering giving up and going Linux Mint and dropping cash for an SSD just to survive. But maybe 10.10.4 was truly a piece of crap? I hope so!
Sadly, i’ve had a number of instant reboots doing random things. Amazing, it reminds me of Microsoft Windows every time…. :-( It might have to do with a USB hub. But still. Aren’t we past bad hardware AND software causing complete system failure???
Have anyone problems with the recovery os? Plz check it, since the update it s not bootable anymore…
Just updated to 10.10.5 and seem to have lost all my Photos. Help!
i have the same issue. i can’t seem to get my photo library to open. it says loading….wtf!
