A week after IDC estimated worldwide Apple Watch Q2 sales of 3.6M units, a large Chinese app analytics company has reportedly measured more than 1M Watches in use in China. TalkingData has access to huge volumes of data as the apps it monitors include WeChat, which has more than half a billion active users, reports Business Insider …
Apple has not released any official figures, but Tim Cook gave some hints back in July which suggested that the company had sold more than 3M Watches globally.
Those wanting to try or buy the Apple Watch now have more options. The Watch last month went on sale in Best Buy in the U.S. and Canada, followed by other retailers around the world. Apple is also ramping up its own sales efforts within Apple Stores.

It’s fun to watch the goal post be moved each passing month…..prelaunch, it was “expect 36 Million units sold” now lets all tout 3Million as success.
Who said 36 million units?
Why dont you go back and read what projections were when the watch was announced…..36M was low end of most!
There was one, and I repeat, ONE stupid analysts at predicting 30 million, and that it.
Meanwhile, you fan droids, keep spreading the mark for it to be a success…
If it had sold 7 billion, you would say that they should sell 14 billion, because everyone has two arms, and then you would say that all of them must be the gold AW.
The truth is there: Apple Watch skirmished everything else, in terms of units, software support, revenue, it’s the most advanced technologically, the most well built, the best design, and it’s even reasonably priced.
Uh… I think the most far reaching optimistic guesstimate may have been close to that number, but that was for sales for the rest of the year – through the holiday season, which hasn’t even begun. More down-to-earth figures were between 10 and 20 million.
Holiday season will be interesting time indeed. The question will be do large amounts of people want an Apple Watch gen 1 in December when the product is already halfway through its life as a current generation. Most logical buyers would want to wait at that point for second gen to be released.

The Apple Watch is just now starting to be pushed on mass scale outside of Apple’s own retail shops. I would say that most of the people who shop in these locations aren’t interested in release schedules, they just buy what they want/need whenever they can.
There’s also the fact that watchOS 2.0 is going to allow many more “features” increasing the utility of the device which could offset any hardware update until a later date. Furthermore, we don’t know what Apple’s update plans are for this new device. Are they going to update it once a year? Or will they just update it when there’s a reason too. I think they designed it and built it to last. They had the foresight to add a port, which may allow them to produce smart bands, which would give them the ability to also extend hardware features.
