Apple releases iOS 9.2 with Arabic Siri, iPhone SD Card Reader support, Apple Music fixes, more

Apple today released iOS 9.2 for iPhones and iPads after several versions of testing. The point update so far has included improvements to Safari including an improved Safari View Controller for viewing websites within apps and easily dismissing them afterwards, the addition of Arabic language support with the Siri voice assistant for the first time, and more.

Previous betas of iOS 9.2 also included AT&T’s new NumberSync feature for iPhone subscribers on their network. This feature allows you to use your other connected devices to send and receive text messages and make phone calls using your phone number even when your iPhone isn’t nearby. More recent betas have removed the feature, however, as NumberSync isn’t set to launch until early next year.

Apple first started allowing developers and public beta testers to try iOS 9.2 beta in late October. The previous release version of the iPhone and iPad software, iOS 9.1, was released around the same time and included over 150 new emoji characters, improvements to Live Photos on Apple’s newest iPhones, and updated space-themed wallpapers.

iOS 9.2 also added support for Apple’s Lightning to SD Card Reader, both new and old, allowing photographers and videographers to shoot photos and videos from dedicated cameras and import them to iPhones for the first time.

You can find the security updates included in iOS 9.2 here. Apple also released OS X 10.11.2, tvOS 9.1, and watchOS 2.1 today.

“Iphone support for USB Camera adapter to import photos and videos” I hope this means I can finally use the apple sd card adapter !!!!

Every time, every update the same: it’s rolled out in phases. You can try to force it by restarting your iPhone or updates it via iTunes. Or you can just wait.

What’s the build number? I can’t get the update from my beta4

Ditto. (Any chance it’s identical to beta 4? Though seems unlikely as its been such a long wait…)

Update: according to the implore.com forums it’s the same – 13C75.

Bummer! I thought this was a worse release than beta3 and really looked forward to Apple improving on it.. Two weeks of waiting down the drain

I hope they fixed a major issue which happens to me at least 10 times a day. I’ll be in Safari on my iPhone 6S Plus and when I go to open a tab in the background, Safari will freeze. I need to force close it and reopen it. When I reopen Safari, the tab I tried to open is there. Just f**king annoying.

Slightly annoying change: 3G/4G symbol in status bar now only visible when wifi is off (scenario: it’s quite common for me to connect to a public wifi network, realise it’s not working very well then glance at the signal strength and LTE indicator to see if it’s worth switching back to mobile.) Wish they’d get rid of the operator name instead…

Cand you expirt photos to the card ir only import ? It would be handy to be able to move ohotos when on the move without the need for a computer

This still has not fixed the touch ID lock screen bug — and now the bug is worse, the entire software keyboard is disabled — you touch screen, nothing happens, when it asks for your PW after touch ID failing. Horrible.

NumberSync is able to be activated again. Wonder when other carriers will support making calls on Mac’s and IPads when on other network then the iPhone. Anyone tried this with the new watchOS update?

There are a bunch of UI FX improvements and OS level optimizations. The multitasking cards are better now. Spotlight Search on its own panel has a new blur FX. Apps load and initiate faster. WiFi works faster.

You should write their release notes :-) Kind of a shame that people have to scroll through forums to get the real scoop instead of trusting the release notes for the full info.

Multitasking cards are WAY better! Hells yeah!

anyone tested this with an iPhone 4S and a 30 pin to SD card adapter?

Its the day after and I’m not seeing a single update yet. My apple watch still doesn’t have an update either. I was previously running the beta 4. is anyone else having the same problems as me?

    • applewatch20152015 - 9 years ago

I didn’t see the Apple Watch update until I did my iPhone update. Once that was through, the watch update appeared. Both installed without issue. I wasn’t running any betas though. That could be your issue. Maybe a fresh install?

Two MAJOR bugs — I wish I did not update!! SIGH! It’s asking for my iCloud password every 15 minutes, and if I have my phone locked for awhile, Touch ID doesn’t work — and even weirder, when this happens, the entire software keyboard on the “Enter your password” screen is disabled! So I can’t even put my password in manually!!! I have to swipe back and forth a few times for the keyboard to work again. What a joke.
