Twitter adds support for web links to Moments

Twitter announced in a blog post today that it’s adding a new capability to its Moments feature on iOS and Android. While Twitter Moments originally supported content like photos, videos, Vines, and polls, publishers can now added add links to Moments to continue telling their story on their own website.

Users can tap a link to a news article, blog, recipe, or other content directly from a Moment and then instantly jump back to where they left off in the Moment from the website. Furthermore, Twitter has partnered with publishers to display the Accelerated Mobile Pages of webpages when available.

People can now dive deeper into publisher content found in Moments, and publishers can continue telling their stories on their own websites, all while also accessing Twitter’s global audience. This expands possibilities for storytelling on Twitter, while providing more context for people.

Additionally, as part of our efforts to ensure that links load as quickly as possible, we collaborated with publishers and industry leaders to launch the AMP project, a new open source initiative to help publishers make incredibly fast mobile websites. Beginning with Moments, we will display the AMP versions of news articles when available.

Support for links in Moments offers a big incentive for publishers to develop high-quality and interesting Moments for users to view. Adoption of Moments has been somewhat stagnant in many people’s opinion, but perhaps access to more in-depth content will drive usage.

Support for links in Moments is rolling out now to Twitter users on iOS and Android.
