Apple debuts new Apple Music ad starring Drake as it ramps up marketing for holiday season

During the AMAs this evening, Apple debuted a new ad for Apple Music starring its long-time advocate, Drake. The ad is essentially a mirror of an ad that starred Taylor Swift and was released earlier this year. Apple has shared its new Drake ad on YouTube with the title “Drake vs. Bench Press.”

In the ad, Drake is seen lifting weights and listening Apple Music for his workout entertainment. The rapper uses the “Pop Workout” playlist, which presents him with Taylor Swift’s song “Bad Blood.” After dancing to the song for a while, Drake gets back to work, only to be so distracted by the music and singing along that he ends up dropping the bench press on his chest and rolling to the ground.

Apple, of course, released a similar ad starring Taylor Swift earlier this year, which saw the singer running on a treadmill and listening to Drake and Future’s song “Jumpman.” Swift, lost in the music, proceeded to fall face first into the treadmill. Apple re-uploaded this video to its YouTube channel tonight, as well.

Both ads end with the tagline “Distractingly good” and tout that there are over 40 million songs on the service and playlists suitable for every moment.

As we head into the holiday season, Apple has seemingly been ramping up its Apple Music advertising. The company has started displaying massive window signs in large, big box retailers around the world, including Best Buy. Apple Music subscriptions will likely be a hot gift item this year and Apple is surely trying to do everything it can to remind people of that.

Apple’s ads for its streaming music budget have been notoriously high budget, as well. In addition to the pieces starring Drake and Taylor Swift, Apple has also brought in celebrities like DJ Khaled and James Corden to promote the service, taking a different approach than it has traditionally used with its advertising.
