A new independent report titled ‘A Pulse on Mobility in Healthcare’ has been published by Apple device management software firm Jamf, who also commissioned the survey. Not surprisingly, the global tally of 550 IT decision makers found that security is the number one concern for healthcare systems who manage mobile devices among other details.
The report which was conducted by Vanson Bourne includes three main topics: mobile trends in healthcare, MDM (mobile device management) in healthcare, and mitigating risk with device management. Here is Jamf’s statement about why they felt this survey was important to produce.
The healthcare landscape is changing. Providers are turning to IT to help deliver faster, more personalized care to patients and improve communications within care teams. How is IT responding to their expanding role in the patient and provider experience?
According to the report summary, 27% of IT stakeholders are not confident in their current MDM solution, in addition to security being the their top concern.
Information pointing to the widespread rapid integration of mobile devices in healthcare systems (and the need for a MDM solution) includes details on organizations that provide devices for caregivers, non-medical staff and even patients.
Of those surveyed, 83% said their healthcare organization provides either smartphones or tablets to caregivers, with 45% of non-medical staff also receiving mobile devices.
When it comes to patients, 31% currently receive a mobile device, with that number expected to grow signi cantly to 39% over the next two years.
Also of note, of the worldwide collective, 77% of the organizations support Android devices, 66% support Apple devices and the majority support multiple operating systems. It’s likely that Jamf sees this as a big opportunity as they are a leader in Apple-only management software. As a part of the report’s conclusion, Jamf (presumably) makes their case for why iOS is the preferred choice paired with their management software.
Currently, Jamf’s clients include 15 of the top 25 Fortune 500 companies and more than 4,000 schools. In addition to their flagship MDM solution jamf PRO they also offer Jamf NOW which is a more affordable option for small businesses and organizations. The full report is available on Jamf’s website.
