Apple has used its YouTube channel for debuting new ads and sharing other marketing videos for years now, and today the company has expanded into four more countries (via @setteBIT) with localized versions of their latest videos. Official Apple YouTube channels in France, Germany, Italy, and Spain are now available with localized videos showcasing Apple’s latest products including iPhone 6s and Apple Watch as well as iPad Pro and Apple Music. If you watch the “iPhone 6s – The Only Thing That’s Changed Is…” English Spot and the German, I think the translation is wrong. At the end in the English version it’s EVERYTHING that changed, in the german it sounds like: That’s all that changed. Meaning.. not everything, just all that what was shown in the Ad.
Hey Iven, as a German I can reassure you, the translation is well done. There are two appearances of the word here. The first “Alles” is a noun and means everything. The second small first letter “alles” is a sideform of the pronoun or numeral “all”. So it is a pretty literal translation of “Every thing that changed is everything”.
Sometimes, the catchy short Apple slogans aren’t easy to translate (literally) into German, but most of the time they do a pretty good job in finding something that works.
Okay, sorry, I misse the point. The first “Alles”, still being a noun, means “the only thing”, like “all that has changed” here. So the German sentence means “All that has changed is everything”.
