Update 8:30PT PM: Apple’s system status page now reflects that the issues have been resolved.
Apple this evening appears to be suffering from a widespread outage, affecting a number of its online services. According to the company’s status page, The issues began roughly half an hour ago and are affecting the App Store, Apple TV, iBooks Store, iTunes Match, iTunes Store, Mac App Store, and Radio.
Apple’s Online Store and iMessage also seem to be affected by the outage according to various tweets and the Down Detector website, although Apple’s status webpage makes no mention of iMessage and Apple Online Store issues. The Down Detector outage map shows that the outages are affecting users across the globe.
Apple has not commented on the outage, nor has it given an ETA for when services are expected to return to normal performance.

Ah, so that’s why Siri was suddenly unresponsive on my Apple TV tonight…
Thanks for the update, Chance – as a Apple TV newbie, I was starting to freak a little when I suddenly couldn’t access my movie library a little while ago. Came here to see if something was reported, and I saw you guys did.
It just works! (TM)
How many times in the past month have one of these (or more) services gone down? Heck, how about how many times this year? A lot. Let’s compare that to the other guys: Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Spotify, Netflix. When was the last time you heard their services go down? It’s not even close.
This is Apple’s biggest weakness. CLOUD SERVICES. They’ve never gotten this right, and it continues to be a problem.
I never had problems with .mac or .me, but icloud has been the definition of SNAFU since it came out. My email account has been a mess for over a year (13 months) and in troubleshooting mode (meaning the engineers are on top of it) and still my email winds up randomly split between junk and my inbox.
Tech support is not what it once was.
Abraham, do a web search for Dropbox, Evernote, choose any cellular or cable service, enter service outage. You will find service interruption happens to them as well. There are plenty of opportunities for things to go wrong: Software and hardware updates, equipment failures, etc., can cause problems. Considering the size of Apple’s customer base one would expect service outages from time to time.
I never claimed that outages doesn’t occur in other places. What I DID say was COMPARE the # of outages at APPLE versus the other guys. Guess what. It’s NOT EVEN CLOSE.
APPLE SUCKS AT THE CLOUD. They really need to improve as it’s their biggest weakness.
Read again what I wrote.
The BETA 4 download is CRAWLING. Boo.
Do we really need an article of Apple service outage?
Almost as soon as you clicked “publish article” the issues were resolved.
This isn’t news at all.
If the outages were for a few days, then sure, there’d be something to report about, but not when its a few microseconds.
Why cause your little fanboy heart is hurting?
Why my imessage cant activate?
