These Apple products won’t get updated this year, but they’re coming in 2025

Only a few months remain in 2024. Apple has some big launches coming in October. But a variety of products won’t get updated before the year ends. Instead, they’re set for release next year. Here’s every Apple product that won’t get updated this year, but is coming in 2025.

M4 MacBook Air, Mac Studio, Mac Pro

Apple’s first M4 Macs are coming next month, but several models won’t be included. That’s because they’re set for 2025 releases instead.

The M4 MacBook Air will arrive early in the year, likely around the same March timeframe that the M3 models debuted.

Later in the year, Apple will update its two highest end Macs.

  • the Mac Studio is expected around mid-2025
  • the Mac Pro will follow it later in the year

Not a lot is known about these new models, other than that they’ll offer our first glimpse at the M4 Ultra chip.

iPhone SE 4

2025 iPhone SE: iPhone 14 form factor, with Apple Intelligence

If you’re in the market for a cost-efficient iPhone, the new iPhone SE 4 will be well worth the wait.

Apple’s new iPhone SE is expected in spring 2025 with these features:

  • a new edge-to-edge design with no Home button, just like Apple’s flagship iPhones
  • likely the A18 chip for Apple Intelligence compatibility
  • OLED display
  • USB-C port

This could very well be the most compelling iPhone SE model ever offered.

AirPods Pro 3

AirPods Pro 2

Apple keeps giving AirPods Pro 2 a variety of new software features, but in 2025 a proper hardware update is coming too.

AirPods Pro 3 are expected to include a new H3 chip and fresh design. These will undoubtedly bring a boost to audio quality, just like the H2 did for AirPods Pro 2. Significantly improved noise cancellation is rumored.

Another X factor is potential health sensors. Apple is already planning to ship its Hearing Aid, Hearing Test, and Hearing Protection features this fall on AirPods Pro 2. Mark Gurman has reported that AirPods with body temperature sensors are in the works. Perhaps we’ll see that feature come to AirPods Pro 3 in 2025.

Apple Watch Ultra 3

There was a lot of hype for an Apple Watch Ultra 3 leading up to Apple’s September event. Unfortunately, all we got was an Ultra 2 color update.

But Ming-Chi Kuo, who correctly predicted there would be no new Ultra this year, has said an Ultra 3 is definitely coming in 2025. No details on new features are known yet. But don’t expect to see the Apple Watch Ultra 3 until next fall.

AirTag

AirTag

Apple’s AirTag has never received a hardware update. But the first new model will finally arrive in 2025.

One expected change in AirTag 2 is the inclusion of Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip. This chip first debuted in 2023 as part of the iPhone 15, Apple Watch Series 9, and Apple Watch Ultra 2.

This newer chip will enable more precise location tracking than before. It’s the power behind modern iPhones’ Precision Finding feature.

Apple Watch SE 3

The first Apple Watch SE arrived in 2020, and its successor dropped two years later. Many thought a third-generation SE would arrive this month, but instead it’s been pushed to 2025.

The Apple Watch SE 3 is expected to integrate more plastic into the design, potentially to market it as an even better option for kids. The adoption of plastic might enable Apple to reduce the SE’s price further, or at least boost margins. Usually new Apple Watch models debut in the fall, but there’s a chance we’ll see the new SE come out in spring 2025 alongside the iPhone SE.

Wildcards: Apple TV, HomePod, iPad

Apple’s home products are wildcards for 2025 releases. There have been all kinds of rumors about a new Apple TV 4K box, and various HomePod-like devices—many with built-in displays. Right now, we wouldn’t count on new hardware for the HomePod or Apple TV in 2025, but we hope that changes.

The final wildcard is the base model 10.9-inch iPad. Originally, all signs indicated the new iPad would debut next month alongside an iPad mini 7. But more recently, supply chain reporting pointed to a possible early 2025 release instead. One way or another, a new entry level iPad is coming soon.

Apple’s 2025 wrap-up

Adding to all of the above, we’ll of course see some other big product launches in 2025. The iPhone 17 line, and certainly the expected iPhone 17 Air, will be the highlights. There will likely be a new Apple Watch Series 11, too. But for the most part, 2025 will focus on updates to a lot of Apple products that don’t get annual attention from the company.
