iOS hacker shows off iOS 9.3.2 JailbreakMe-inspired jailbreak, but a release is unlikely

JailbreakMe iOS 9.3.2 Demo

Luca Todesco, better known around iOS hacking circles as qwertyoruiop, has released a video showcasing an iOS 9.3.2 jailbreak. The jailbreak, which is performed on a sixth-generation iPod touch, is performed in a style that’s similar to Comex’s famous JailbreakMe release for iOS 4.3.3 and below.

While it’s highly unlikely that this jailbreak release will ever see the light of day, the video is fairly convincing, and Todesco is a well-known hacker who has the credentials that lend to the video’s validity.

Developer hacks Watch OS to get a web browser running on Apple Watch

Prominent community developer and jailbreaker Comex has posted a video showing a successful hack of Watch OS to get the device running a web browser.

In the video, Comex has managed to get the Google homepage to render on the small Watch display. Apple does not include a Safari browser app on the Watch, for obvious reasons. The video shows that scrolling around even basic web pages on a tiny display is impractical.

More importantly, the video shows that it is possible to get the Watch to run arbitrary code. This could be the first step towards a ‘jailbreak’ of the Apple Watch although Comex makes no such promises to ever release the details of his hack.

Apple now sending email notifications when users sign in to iCloud.com

Apple is now sending emails to users when they log in to iCloud.com. This is part of Apple’s latest security upgrades to iCloud, which Tim Cook announced late last week. In the interview, Cook said Apple planned to launch the feature within two weeks, but obviously it has been deployed much sooner. The notification is supposed to act as a warning for users, to detect account infiltrations as early as possible. Supposedly, these emails will only be sent once, the first time an account logs in to a particular device, so it shouldn’t spam your inbox with login notifications.
