Volkswagen’s VW line, one of the few notable holdouts from announcing future integration of CarPlay into its vehicles, is in talks with Apple to embed the iOS-based feature, according to a source with knowledge of the discussions.
An announcement from the two companies is expected in the coming months, but specifics on which models will receive CarPlay are currently unavailable, except sources say that Volkswagen is targeting CarPlay for 2016 models, not 2015 versions…
Volkswagen and Apple were early partners in the Cupertino-company’s quest for integrating iPods into cars, so the lack of CarPlay presence thus far in Volkswagen’s cars is interesting. Apple launched CarPlay earlier this year with iOS 7.1, and has added new car models to the list of future supported vehicles frequently over the past few months.
Sources say that Apple is also working on an update to CarPlay for a future version of iOS that will allow the system to connect to cars wirelessly instead of over the USB Lightning cable. Volkswagen declined to comment and Apple has not replied to a request for comment sent last week.

It’s about freakin’ time. Hopefully we’ll see some form of retro-integration or compatibility with current models. Everything in my 2014 Jetta seems like it should be capable.
Maybe as a very expensive dealer-fitted accessory… but otherwise I am sure Volkswagen will be wanting to take the opportunity to sell new cars!
“Volkswagen in talks with Apple to bring CarPlay 2016 VW models” …I think you’re missing another “to” somewhere in there Mark.
Finally!!!
People still buy VW?
That’s news. I seldom see any on the road.
Try to visit another country then USA :-) Maybe some European ;-)
And still dead silence from that Marques partner Honda…
VW will Weltweit die Nr. 1 werden, verweigert Carplay uns stößt Millionen iPhone -Besitzer vor den Kopf.
