New images provide clearest look yet at iPhone 6 front panel

Images of what appears to be the face and screen assembly of the next iPhone have appeared on the Taiwanese blog AppleClub [translation]. In the photos, you can see both the inside and outside of the 4.7″ device’s front panel. For the most part it looks just like the current-generation iPhone 5s, though it’s obviously much larger.

Unfortunately it’s impossible to tell from these photos if the phone is utilizing a glass or sapphire crystal display. Most analysts expect this model to ship with a sapphire crystal screen, though others have claimed that only the larger 5.5″ model would feature that. Both models recently entered mass production and are expected to be revealed at an unannounced media event on September 9th.

More photos of the front panel are below:

  1. well i hope they do something special that isn’t obvious on these pictures as a screen size bump and slightly faster (as usual) processor isn’t gonna cut it for me anymore. Had enough of tiny updates warranting big spending on a phone that is no better than android anymore. Used to dominate, Apple died with SJ if you ask me but i’d been holding out hoping it was just a slow patch. Idiots

The screen size update is a HUGE deal and will drive iPhone sales in record numbers. There is tremendous pent up demand for a larger iPhone.

Plus you get iOS8 which brings a plethora of improvements.

I’m curious – what else do you want your pocket telephone to do? Maybe it could have a pop out toothbrush or a nail clipper?

      • Mathew K J (@kuttanq10) - 10 years ago

This is what I’d want my pocket telephone to do/be – water resistant/proof, scratch proof (sapphire-grade – watches have had it for decades) and a battery that doesn’t die down in a day. And finally, can I get a FullHD display please?

    • Nick Van den Broeck - 10 years ago

Really? Really? Your comment proves that you’re the type of person Apple counts on to buy their next-gen iphone. By reading your comment I’m fairly sure you buy every new iphone that comes out, even if you don’t want to. I bet you’ll even buy this one too. There is no reason really to buy every new iPhone, except for “fitting in with the crowd” or “being cool because you have the latest gen”. There’s really just not that much of difference that would render it a good idea to dump your old iPhone and buy a new one that’s a little bit better, except for having piles of money you’d have to do something with anyway..

Please be smart and do what you’re stating instead of mouthing off and end up doing the same thing over and over again like many other people I know.. See you the next release of a new iPhone, telling about how you wouldn’t buy it.

      • kddw1 - 10 years ago

Unfortunately you’re right. The first iPhone sucked me into Apple world I loved every minute of it. Then second one came out third one came out and I was giddy then after a while I started to notice that small updates equals big money out of my pocket not worth it. Now I’m not saying that I’m going to leave the iPhone family. I have spent WAY to much on apps. But buying every iPhone that comes out is a waste of money.

    • Jimi (@xacid) - 10 years ago

I’ve used Every iPhone from the 3G to the 5s and 3 different Android based devices. Honestly the iPhone is still a better device than all Android devices. Its the simplicity of the OS that makes it better. Unless you root an Android device you are stuck with the horrible carrier software that it comes with and when Google releases updates well you’ll have to wait for your carrier to push those out. Sometimes its 6 months to near a year. Hell even last gen models of some Android devices aren’t even on the most recent version of Android because the manufacturer and/or carrier stopped supporting it. Apple still supports the iPhone 4 which is being dropped in iOS 8 for the 4S but that is still four devices they still support when most Android manufacturers do maybe one or two at the most.

Apple went pretty far with Steve Jobs at the helm and losing him was devastating but saying Apple died with him isn’t true. They produce some of the best devices out there and so many companies copy them its insane.

    • jrox16 - 10 years ago

Okay, and what are the big upgrades between a Nexus 4 and a Nexus 5, or a Galaxy S4 and a Galaxy S5 (which cost the same as iPhones). Not sure what you want out a phone, they all do the same stuff, relax.

    • Edgar Barrios (@canelo8) - 10 years ago

Stop trying to say that you won’t buy the new iPhone. Apple will not let you leave. I tried with the last update. I had way too many issues with syncing contacts/emails/SMS. Finally the fact that Apple won’t leave your phone number out of iMessage makes that transition even harder.

    • Surfer (@exsurfer) - 10 years ago

Agreed. I hope this isn’t just a bigger iPhone 5s.

  2. Shamil Nunhuck - 10 years ago

Do they support the rounded edges of the mockups and shells we’ve seen thus far?

  3. Simon James Powers - 10 years ago

Looks like … a Bigger iPhone.

  4. Lee (@leemahi) - 10 years ago

I think it’s entirely possible September 9th rolls around and there is no 5.5 inch phone. I also think it’s entirely possible iWatch isn’t announced until October. I have low expectations since I’ve been burned the last 4 years that something cool would happen. I hope I’m completely wrong! I really hope Apple is exciting and surprising again.

    • nsxrebel - 10 years ago

You’ve been burned? Apple promised to surprise you?

      • standardpull - 10 years ago

The sadness and pain has been overwhelming. I’ve been waiting and waiting, and my parents won’t buy me what I want – a 16 core i3-based iPhone with 128 GB of RAM and a 1 TB Flash and dual 100 Gbit Ethernet and 802.11ac and dual full sized hdmi ports. This sadness can only be answered by a Google Android based product made in a Pb-free communist factory that fully respects workers that are over 16 years old. Apple is burning everyone and I can’t wait for the new non-Apple tablet either, as my games are missing. My sadness is extreme. Do not forsake my internal turmoil or the honesty of the terror it places upon my soul.

  5. PMZanetti - 10 years ago

What 5.5″ model? You mean the one with zero part leaks or actual evidence of any kind?

There is no 5.5″ model. Not in Sept, Oct, Nov, or Dec.

    • vandiced - 10 years ago

PMZanetti – does that mean there is no iWatch or Apple wearable too?

    • Jeffrey Feuerstein - 10 years ago

I would love to see your face when they announce a 5.5 inch iPhone. Maybe not in Sept, but it will be announced within the coming half year

      • standardpull - 10 years ago

Secret: it’s called the iPad mini and it is actually a tablet and will be made available much sooner than that.

    • o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

No part leaks huh? Try this: http://9to5mac.com/2014/06/21/here-are-the-first-photos-of-the-5-5-inch-iphone-6s-purported-lcd/

This is alleged of course, just like all parts we’ve seen.

    • You haven’t been paying attention then. There have been several parts leaks for the 5.5″ model. Sometimes a simple google search will help you if you’re not entirely sure of what you’re talking about.

      • nsxrebel - 10 years ago

there have been SOME parts leaks, but nothing substantial that would confirm a 5.5″ phone.

      • o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

@nsxrebel Yes there has, I posted a link but it’s awaiting moderation. Google iPhone 6 5.5″ display leak

      • standardpull - 10 years ago

It’s because it’s actually a 6″ phone, not 5.5″. And it’s made out of polycarbonate hydrochloride, which is nearly as hard as diamond shards.

  6. tanmayatkekar - 10 years ago

The bezels seem really big in these photos. Will have to reserve judgment before I see it in person.

  7. Gagik Stepanyan - 10 years ago

There is a little Apple logo near the connector on the top. That is a detail that very few fake makers could do. So, maybe, it’s real thing.
It’s so cool that no parts of iWatch (iTime) leaked! It’s great, I’m glad there is at least one really secret product coming and we haven’t seen it yet!

  8. Nick Pomes (@NickPomes) - 10 years ago

Can’t wait for the iPhone 6? Check out our beautiful countdown to September 9th at http://www.appletimer.com!

  9. o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

Obviously much bigger? Doesn’t look bigger based on that hand. These are obviously fake, because the ones in the previous scratch test videos had much thinner bezels and bezel around the edges. These are in no way the new iPhone panel.

  10. David Tan (@d4vidtan) - 10 years ago

    It’s a pinch to zoom iPhone 5

  11. Alexander Trust - 10 years ago

Where is your IMG 9393 from? Because on the AppleClub page this one is missing.

    • Marc Plus (@stakwild) - 10 years ago

The image on the top left has nothing to do with the rest of these pictures. It looks like a Fire phone part.

I’d like to see more investigative reporting from sites like 9to5mac instead of just describing the pictures they get. The bezel on this purported screen doesn’t match those on the front panel that 9to5mac had “exclusive” high resolution pictures of, yet it’s not noted in the article.

I believe the new pictures are not showing a genuine Apple part, as the screw mounts don’t match the previously leaked back shell. (And I tend to believe that the aluminum shells are real, as they are much harder to fake).

  12. Edward (@archurban) - 10 years ago

same design same shit just like Samsung galaxy. I see the sign to perish. technology nowadays is not matter whether you choose one to one. it’s your taste. phone market is already full. Chinese phone is risen up. all competition will be screw up by it.

  13. I think the might be fake. To date Apple has not put the Apple Logo on any part, i went to AppleClub and the pictures are a lot bigger. On every iPhone or mac or iPad that i have ever opened (Every iPhone since the 3G multiple times, every iPad and a handful of MacBooks and MacBook Pros, iMacs, many Power PC iMacs and iBooks) I don’t think i have every noticed a Apple Logo on any of the flexes, if i have they would only be in the computers.
The only reason to not say these are fake is that Apple is fed up with companies selling parts with Apple written on them when they are not Apple certified parts (many if not almost all 3rd party resellers, remember the store in Maryland that got busted for selling parts with Apple written all over them (I worked at a 3rd party repair store then in Maryland and we were doing the same thing at the time)). This will help them know if the phone has been repaired before or not and if it has been then someone is selling parts with the Apple Logo on it and they will open a investigation on the repair stores in the area.

  14. o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

By the way, how is this the ‘clearest look yet’ hahah. You guys specifically posted a myriad of hi res close-up shots of a purported iPhone 6 panel which looked nothing like these, because these are fake. The scratch test video shows the clearest look yet, since it was in very HD and showed it from all angels in every way. It doesn’t even look like a 4.7″ panel here.

  15. Tim Jr. - 10 years ago

Is it just me, or does that look like a cheep knockoff phone screen? everything about it. from the fact that it’s just an identical 5s but larger… to the fact that it doesn’t match Brownlee’s version..

    BrownLee’s part:
    – Smaller bezel
    – Re-positioned mic, speaker, proximity sensor
    – Scratch tests show it’s a very which quality, but not sapphire, but we already know 4.7″ not likely sapphire..
    – Actually had a full HD video

These images.. Look like a knock off part from a knock off phone maker.. there are several ‘fake’ iPhone 6 phones and this looks JUST like them… and Apple doesn’t put Apple logo’s or QR codes on their parts.. Apple DOESNT use QR codes..lol

    • Tim Jr. - 10 years ago

      http://youtu.be/5R0_FJ4r73s

Browlee’s video (prior to sandpaper test from him.. His sandpaper test shows it’s NOT sapphire, but still an improved screen over the 5s)

      • jrox16 - 10 years ago

It can be a sapphire laminate or new formulation of some sort, providing better scratch resistance than any gorilla glass yet be more flexible and shatter proof than pure sapphire glass. You wouldn’t want pure sapphire glass for a phone screen. There is always a trade off between hardness and shatter resistance.

      • o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

@jrox you literally have zero knowledge about sapphire glass, please don’t pretend you know that it wouldn’t be good for a phone screen by itself. By the way, if something is laminated in sapphire, how does it lack the hardness property of sapphire again??? Like they’d put sapphire on the outside and it magically doesn’t possess the hardness of sapphire then???

P.S. What I heard is that sapphire is more shatter resistant than gorilla glass because scratches cause micro fractures in the glass which when dropped increase the likelihood the glass will shatter. Sapphire won’t have any micro fractures because it won’t have any scratches, thus, less likely to shatter.

  16. SUNY-ESF - 10 years ago

    …Maybe it’s just a person with small hands holding a 5 part.

  17. Chris Denny (@dennyc69) - 10 years ago

Isn’t it time to get past these “parts leak” stories? It’s the same part we saw from a different person.

    • jrox16 - 10 years ago

Yeah, seriously just click-bait, and we all fell for it and that’s why they publish. There’s no new information here, we’ve seen these “leaks” a million times already. But since we are here, they keep posting. Our fault in that respect.

  18. Chris Brindley - 10 years ago

Just remember when you are disappointed with these features, Apple hasn’t released any features yet, this is all guess work based on pictures of components, after Septemeber 9th should be when you make a decision,

  19. Computer_Whiz123 - 10 years ago

A bigger phone = more space for my apps!

    • o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

They won’t put more apps on the screen if that’s what you’re suggesting. Adding another row would be beyond idiotic and it’s 100% fact that they won’t. You can expect larger app icons or the same size app icons just further spread out.

      • Computer_Whiz123 - 10 years ago

Good point. Although there comes a point when more app spacing will just be impractical.

      • o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

Well Apple uses a lot of spacing on the iPads.

  20. Lars Pallesen - 10 years ago

That white “iPhone 6” front panel in the first two pictures, isn’t it 100% identical to the current 5S front panel? And looking at it again – doesn’t the size seem to fit with the 4 inch iPhone 5S screen, rather than a 4,7? In other words; what tells us that this is an iPhone 6 front panel and not just the an iPhone 5/5s front panel?

    • o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

The only thing is the camera on the left I think. It’s not the real iPhone 6 panel I assure you. Look at the video posted here in the comments, that is the real deal.
