XCOM: Enemy Unknown for iPhone & iPad now available on the App Store

We told you that XCOM: Enemy Unknown, a critically acclaimed game of the year on PC and consoles from 2K Games, would be arriving in the App Store starting tomorrow on June 20. However, today the game has already started hitting App Stores around the world at the expected price of $20 USD. The game of course features enhanced controls specifically suited for the touch screen, but otherwise aims to bring the full XCOM: EU experience to iOS devices:

Threatened by an unknown enemy, Earth’s governments unite to form an elite paramilitary organization, known as XCOM. As the commander of XCOM, you must create a fully operational base, research alien technologies, plan combat missions, and lead your soldiers in fierce battles against a terrifying alien invasion. The decisions you make will affect the fate of humanity. You are our last hope.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown doesn’t yet feature multiplayer on iOS, but 2K is planning on adding multiplayer modes in a future update.

The game is compatible with iPad 2 and up, iPad mini, iPod touch 5 and up, and iPhone 4S and up; but 2K warns “XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a graphically rich game with advanced features that is best experienced on the iPad 4 and up.”

Others recently reported the game would be a whopping 3.2GB download on iOS devices, but according to iTunes you’ll need 1.86GB for the install.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is available on the App Store now.
