Smash and grab thieves do some holiday looting in Apple Store, Berlin

raid1

Bild.de reports that thieves crashed an Opel Corsa into the Apple Store in Berlin in the early hours, stealing display model iPhones, iPads and Macs. Six thieves were said to have carried out the smash and grab at 4.15am before escaping in two Audis.

There have been seven such burglaries in Berlin recently, including one at the electronics chain Media Markt, where the thieves made off with goods worth €100,000 ($137,000).

A team of ten police officers are investigating the burglaries. It’s likely the store will be closed for some time as police complete their examination and staff begin the clean-up.

Good luck selling those activation locked devices, all with GPS trackers inside.

It does seem about the most stupid way possible to steal Apple kit, I agree! But then thieves are rarely noted for their intelligence …

    • There are no “GPS trackers”.

      They’re normal devices specially imaged.

The iPhones and iPads are presumably directly trackable, and the Macs only marginally less so if they are connected to wifi

Bullet proof, electrified glass…double layer, with mustard gas in between the layers. Problem solved… :)

Hey, short correction from a Berliner: “Alexa” is the name of a mall in Berlin. The store they robbed inside that mall was “Media Markt”.

all display model iPhones are without proper sim card trays, useless for actual phone calls.
