When Microsoft launched its Office for iPad apps last month, one of the most requested missing features was printing support. Just over a month later, today the company announced in a blog post that it’s updating the Word, Excel, and PowerPoint iPad apps with support for printing in addition to other new features and fixes.
Your top request is here! You can now print Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations to an AirPrintTM printer. In Word for iPad, you can choose to print a document with or without markup. In Excel, print a selected range, a single worksheet or an entire spreadsheet. Of course, you can select the pages or slides you want to print.
In addition to printing, the company also announced that its updated PowerPoint with SmartGuides, the tool that allows users to easily “align pictures, shapes, and textboxes as you move them around on a slide.” You’ll also find other new features for Excel, as well as fixes and improvements in the other apps:
AutoFit in Excel now lets you adjust the width of multiple rows or the height of multiple columns at the same time. With just a few taps, you’ll be sure that your spreadsheet looks better and that no content is hidden.
The updated Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps for iPad will be available on the App Store today. The apps are free to download for basic document viewing features, but do require a $99/year (Home) or $69/year (Personal) Office 365 Home subscription to unlock full editing features. You can, however, currently grab the Home subscription for $68 on Amazon, which is even less than Microsoft’s cheapest Personal plan.

It’ll probably never happen but the only other feature I need is access to rival cloud storage services.
Anyone notice that big companies release versions of their software missing key features then turn around and add them back in touting them as new features?
Usually it’s because they’d rather not have them at all than do a crappy job at it then have to fix the mess later.
Does the ability to print require Office 365?
Doesn’t help when the cost is $100.00 more every year but iWork is free and can do everything Microsoft can do.
One feature it needs is to be able to save file as .pdf or other formats. I say this because I saved the file to the cloud through my iPad and opened it on my mac. Everything in the documents was not the same font and the pictures in the documents were scattered differently.
