Cultured Code’s task management app Things has yet to receive an update on iPhone or iPad to fit in with Apple’s design direction introduced with iOS 7 as a major new version has long been in development, but it looks like users of Things will soon get a bit of relief in the form of an iOS 8 system extension.
A preview of the iOS 8 extension for Things has been added to the company’s status board for the app and shows text being copied and pasted from a website on Safari directly into a new entry on Things without leaving the web browser.
According to Culture Code’s status board, the Things extension will arrive on iOS with the release of Things 2.5, which is currently in internal alpha testing.
For now, a bug fix in the form of Things 2.3 has been submitted to the App Store for approval to address some issues with the app on iOS 8, and Things users will soon have access to the current keyboard as iOS 8 forces it on apps not yet updated.
Things 3, which will feature a new design and set of features, is still currently internally labeled as in alpha, according to Cultured Code’s status board.

Although the update is yet to be submitted, Things 2 can be found on the App Store for iPhone ($9.99) and iPad ($19.99).
We’ve already seen a number of previews for what to expect from developers with the release of iOS 8.
1Password has shown off its own iOS 8 extension for users and developers as well as Touch ID support, stats tracking app Numerous has previewed its Notification Center support, and Fleksy has shared its plans to support iOS 8 alternative system keyboards.
iOS 8 is expected to be released to the public shortly after Apple’s anticipated iPhone event scheduled for September 9th. We’ll keep you posted on that and the latest apps taking advantage of iOS 8’s new technologies.

I loved Things back in the day. Pre iCloud days. I bought the iPhone, iPad and Mac app ($39 in total). But from an app that costs that much I expect monthly updates. Not a full year of waiting for an visual iOS 7 update. It takes way too long. Deleted the apps and continued with a subscription on Wunderlist.
Why should a developer make useless updates? And why should a developer rush and hurry to throw an update on the AppStore with a lot of bugs. The developers should take time to update their apps, to make their customers happy with well build apps!
It’s not a useless update when the current version doesn’t fully support a year old OS (functionally and aesthetically). Furthermore, I would have tried this app but won’t now based on royabbink’s comments.
So a “useless update” would have kept their users happy and gotten more sales. That’s not “useless”.
I really do think they’re gonna deliver an incredible update. However their way of telling us users how the development is going is way too slow. They needed to show things like this video, months ago…
I’m really excited now. Looks fantastic, why was it so hard to show a little tease action?
I have to say that I agree with you completely. Things is one of the more expensive range of apps on the App Store and for them to not have even provided a proper update for iOS 7 is not great. Their development process seems very slow as Things 3 has been in Alpha state for months and months. I moved to Wunderlist as well. Even the Things app icon looks totally out of place on iOS 7 and now ios 8. How difficult would it have been to just update the keyboard and the icon at an absolute minimum? The app looks very dated now.
It strikes me as a little odd that suddenly they are going to provide an update with iOS 8 coming. If they don’t Apple will pull their app from the App Store. Also interesting that when iOS 7 was first released, Omnifocus was one of the first apps updated for iOS 7.
Things might have missed the boat.
I’m really stoked for this kind of functionality in iOS 8. Any shortcut I can take is money in my pocket, as far as I’m concerned.
