Schmidt loves to talk down Apple at any opportunity, but he is not shy about his admiration of Steve Jobs. At an event last night, in the run up to the release of Schmidt’s book How Google Works, he was asked about who he looks up to. He only said one name.
Via CNET, Schmidt said:
“For me, it’s easy. Steve Jobs,” he said in a quiet, contemplative voice.
“We could all aspire to be a small percentage of Steve,”
“Exceptional people are worth hanging out with,” Schmidt said on Thursday. “Because there is a good chance they are going to change the world.”
Only yesterday was Schmidt dissing Apple for its inferior security and encryption practices, but it’s important to remember that Apple and Google were good partners a few years ago. Famously, Eric Schmidt was on stage at the iPhone event, the only non-Apple employee to feature in the iPhone keynote aside from AT&T’s representation.

For a Mac site Schmidt the Sh*t is getting a heck of a lot of column inches – he’s been caught in lies, caught not knowing what he talks about, admits he was ripping off iPhone info while on their board (the real cause of the Jobs Thermonuclear comment, Schmidt double crossed him) yet he lulls about how great Jobs was. So not a great and trustworthy pal for anyone and about as likable as a fart in a space suit.
Interview anyone at the nearest bus stop. Their thoughts hold equal merit. The guy is a shyster, beyond his time at Google, he serves no real purpose but to get sites like this printing out his endless muses.
We don’t care. Like Ballmer, he’s beyond the best before date. All your doing is promoting this sh*ts book.
Bulls-eye!
That’s a lot of writing for a comment dismissing Mr. Schmidt. I detect envy.
And we all detect a sad troll…
Ha, ha. Nailed it Dave!
Schmidt got his small percentage of Steve. It was called iPhone OS. Eric the thief never even said thank you. Ungrateful pimp. At least he should fess up and admit he stole the idea and be done with itas we all know he did.
Let’s all take LSD like Steve.
Let’s all be egotistical bullies like Steve.
Don’t kid yourself Google employees don’t say their founding clowns are egotistical… they are well renowned.
If you wanna bitch Herb fair enough, but something original would be nice. That’s why you seem so sad and sorrowful.
And you’re dumb enough to think it’s possible to do what SJ accomplished by being that?? It’s a very shallow way of describing a personality and makes for no abilities at all to understand complexity of individuals humanity needs to progress. It reminds me of Steves speech, square pegs in round holes etc. Those persons that do the impossible. Herb, don’t ever apply as personal recruiter!
Lets all be like Lee Kun-hee, Samescum ceo. Oh wait, he went to prison for corruption, fraud, tax evasion and bribing public officials. Well no-ones perfect, ay herb?
We could all aspire to get a percentage like Steve.
