Apple Pay launched in the United States last month with support at over 220,000 stores operated by participating merchants, including Apple Stores, American Eagle, Aeropostale, Bloomingdale’s, Champs Sports, Chevron, McDonald’s, Nike, Office Depot, Radio Shack and Walgreens. Additional retailers and apps have since added Apple Pay support including Staples, and now the mobile payments service can be used for parking, rent and at even more retailers as of this month…
Chicago-based startup SpotHero updated its app earlier this week with support for Apple Pay mobile payments. SpotHero is an innovative solution to find parking, compare rates and book a spot for up to 50% off the drive-up rate. SpotHero receives unsold spots from parking facilities, negotiates a special rate and passes the savings on to consumers. The app covers major metropolitan areas like New York, Chicago, Washington, Boston, Philadelphia, Newark, Denver, Baltimore, Milwaukee, Minneapolis and New Orleans.
SpotHero claims to be the only parking app that currently supports Apple Pay.
“Our goal is to make life easier for the daily driver. Since many of our customers are last minute parkers, Apple Pay allows them to quickly find and reserve a spot with one tap,” said SpotHero CEO Mark Lawrence about the company’s move to Apple Pay. “Since 46% of our mobile app users have an Apple Pay eligible device, we believe this move will improve more people’s experience with SpotHero.”
It is now also possible to actually pay your rent with Apple Pay using another innovative app called RadPad, regardless of how old-school your landlord is. If you are currently paying your rent by cash or check, you can use RadPad to pay with a debit card or credit card using Apple Pay. The app, for a fee, can turn your payment into a physical check and send it out to your landlord.
RadPad claims that, up until now, some 90 million renters across the United States have paid their rent by check or cash — nearly $350 billion in rent annually. In its first four weeks after launching, RadPad’s “Pay with RadPad” feature processed $256,000 in rent through mobile payments. To use Apple Pay, simply tap on Pay My Rent and enter your landlord’s information.
Last, two additional retailers in the United States will reportedly begin accepting Apple Pay with grocery store chains Winn-Dixie and BI-LO enabling support. Whole Food Markets is another grocer that has supported Apple Pay since its launch with Apple’s mobile payment service accounting for an estimated 1% of of the chain’s sales during Apple Pay’s first 17 days.

Update: Bi-Lo Holdings, which owns the grocery stores Winn-Dixie, Bi-Lo, and Harverys, officially announced Apple Pay support at its locations calling it “a digital solution that prioritizes privacy and usability.”

I used Apple Pay at Cumberland Farms the other day, I’ve never seen that mentioned anywhere
ShopRite too! :)
Used it at Jewel-Osco all over Chicago
Where? What? I asked if I can use my apple pay, or mobile payment and the cashier had no clue what I was talking about.
the Puma store and Harris Teeter
My local BiLo accepts NFC payments. Too bad I’m still stuck on a 5 for about another year and neither of my cards are supported in apple pay yet.
I m going to get the iwatch for the same resond. Not to mention that I think paying without even having to take out ur phone is so cool.
Reason*
Most anywhere you see that little NFC symbol you can use ApplePay. I’ve used it in numerous locations never mentioned by Apple. Even my little lunch spot, a locally owned sandwich place has a NFC terminal….
Works with almost any NFC receiver. Use it cabs in DC all the time.
I have used Apple Pay for a taxi ride in Chicago
Is there a website / blog or something that aggregates where Apple Pay is being accepted?
Works at Whataburger in Texas (but only with MasterCard)
Just used my Bank of America Card (Visa) at one in Dallas just a couple days ago.
I have tried my BofA VISA Debit, But I wonder if the fact it is a debit card is what is not working
Accepted at Sprouts Farmers Markets
Probably depends on the Sprouts, one I went to didn’t take NFC payments of any kind. Where are you located?
I am located in South Texas. I am thinking the only difference is that the VISA is a Debit Card. I wonder if that is the problem.
Home Depot also accepts it and I haven’t seen them mentioned and so does OfficeMax. :)

* MasterCard only worked, not VISA
I have a visa card associated with my apple pay and I use it regularly at Whataburger.
THIS got me thinking… When do you think Microsoft Stores will START accepting Pay?
i use spot hero to much and dont see apply pay machines or even when leaving the lot looks kinda dumb waving my phone hover in many areas and nothing i have to call assistance button they have to release me from lot in chicago loop parking space
Any news yet as to when it’s coming to the UK?
The paying your rent with apple pay got me thinking that businesses could set up small terminals outside their building for 24/7 bill pay access.
for example, my leasing office has a drop box for rent checks. They could install a terminal next to it that accepts nfc payments. so instead of dropping off a check, you just pay with apple pay.
