Universal eyes Jeff Daniels to play former Apple CEO John Sculley in Steve Jobs movie

The Wrap reports that Universal Pictures is eyeing The Newsroom (and Dumb & Dumber) star Jeff Daniels to perform as former Apple CEO John Sculley in the upcoming Steve Jobs movie by Aaron Sorkin. Daniels would be reunited with Sorkin and Scott Rudin, executive producers of The Newsroom, starring alongside Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs and Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak.

It appears that the pieces are finally starting to come together for the Steve Jobs biopic, after an eventful few months in which the movie changed hands from Sony to Universal and was passed on by Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale and Natalie Portman. Daniels does not yet have a contract for his role, although he is reportedly director Danny Boyle’s top candidate and should be signed soon.

In the previous Jobs film starring Ashton Kutcher, Sculley was depicted by Matthew Modine of Full Metal Jacket fame.

The biopic, slated to enter production in the spring, reportedly has a well-researched script that is based on Walter Isaacson’s official biography of Jobs, who passed away in late 2011 following a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.

Boyle is still seeking a lead female actor to play the role of former Mac marketing chief Joanna Hoffman, according to The Wrap, following Portman’s recent decision to turn down the offer.

Universal Pictures did not immediately respond to request for comment.

This film feels like the Jodorowsky’s Dune of tech bio pics.
