Apple today announced that it is increasing the size limit for apps submitted by developers to the App Store through its iTunes Connect service. Previously limited to 2GB, app packages can now be a maximum of 4GB in size. Apple made the announcement on its website for developers earlier today but some apps have been over the 2GB limit since at least January.
Apple noted the change will allow developers to “include more media in your submission and provide a more complete, rich user experience upon installation.”
While the change increases the overall size of app packages, Apple pointed out that doesn’t affect “the cellular network delivery size limit of 100 MB.”
Now Accepting Larger Binaries

The size limit of an app package submitted through iTunes Connect has increased from 2 GB to 4 GB, so you can include more media in your submission and provide a more complete, rich user experience upon installation. Please keep in mind that this change does not affect the cellular network delivery size limit of 100 MB.

Maybe to give to developers the possibility to create some high games? :)
Great news for games.
T-Mobile offers unlimited data, why still limit to a paltry 100MB? Also, I hope developers won’t be lazy and stick every version of graphic asset in their app to cover all devices. That’s just bloat and wasted space on our devices.
That 100mb cellular barrier is a great motivation for developers to keep their apps small. Most apps we use today could be below 50mb without sacrificing any functionality, but unfortunaly they’re bloated.
Here’s the thing. An update to the Apple TV might require a larger file size… Just thinkin’
I hope this means that apps will naturally be larger and basic iPhone models come in 32GB, at the minimum.
XCOM-Enemy Unknown was 3,2 Gb, if I recall correctly
The installed file could be any size. The download size however can’t be >2GB (until now).
While Apple Inc. announced the increase in app size limit on its official developer website yesterday, it has in fact been accepting apps that exceed 2 GB in size since the start of 2015.
