With Apple’s introduction of its new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus going on sale later this month, the company will discontinue the gold color option for the previous generation iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 5s.
As it has done in the past for new iPhone introductions, Apple announced today that it will continue selling its previous generation iPhone 6, 6 Plus, and the iPhone 5S at reduced price points after it begins selling its iPhone 6s models later this month. The new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus get a new rose gold color option in addition to the space gray, silver, and gold options that were available for the last two iPhone models, and in the process Apple appears to be discontinuing the gold model for the older devices.
As pictured above in a comparison chart from Apple’s newly updated website, iPhone 6, 6 Plus, and 5s buyers will get the option of silver or space gray going forward.
Apple’s new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus models officially go up for preorder starting September 12 and will go on sale in stores September 25. The new device takes over the pricing of last year’s model starting at $199 on contract, while the older iPhones stick around in two capacities including the iPhone 5s at $0 (16GB) or $49 (32GB), the iPhone 6 for $99 (16GB) or $199 (64GB), and the iPhone 6 Plus for $199 (16GB) or $299 (64GB).

It’s to spur new phone sales in the Asian markets.
Notice the boxes show the color of the device and Apple logo is the color of the device? The Rose gold box show pink iPhone lettering and pink Apple logo on th iPhone page.
Also, at least in Canada, the 128GB iPhone 6 and 6 plus models are no longer available.
Because no one likes the gold. When I bought my 6 at beginning of launch all that was left was the gold color, space gray and silver was shipping 3-4 weeks.
Any Asian influence in your area, anekin? Around here, Gold and Space Grey were the colours everyone fought for. I’m a fan of Silver and White for Apple stuff, so I got a free pass.
Because they want to make people to buy the new iPhone 6S or 6S Plus genius ;)
does anyone know with the new force touch, will it work if we were to add the glass screen protection?
I was thinking the same thing. Probably it will work but maybe not AS precise as it is intended to? What I wonder is are we going to need a glass screen protection? Every year’s new iteration is coming with better and better glass. Schiller said that this one is the best glass out there right now. Even on my grandpa iPhone 4 I am not using protector and it’s fine. So I assume that 6S’ screen will be at least x100 better :)
Then the Gold 6 will be much rarer and therefore hold more value on resale.
