T-Mobile offering $5/mo iPhone 6s upgrades with old model trade-ins

In an effort to compete with Apple’s new iPhone Upgrade Program, T-Mobile today has announced a change to its Jump! On Demand upgrade program to make it even more affordable to get an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus this Friday. T-Mobile CEO John Legere announced the new plans in a series of tweets, taking the opportunity to also, of course, slam the upgrade offerings presented by other carriers…

As part of its new upgrade program, T-Mobile customers can trade in their iPhone 6 and receive an iPhone 6s for as little as $5 per month. The price increases depending on which model of the device you choose, although exact rates remain unclear at this point. If you trade in an iPhone 5s, you’ll be eligible to upgrade to an iPhone 6s for as little as $10 per month, with prices again increasing based on what variant you choose. You’ll still be eligible to upgrade up to three times per year, as well. Legere also notes that if you’ve already pre-ordered the iPhone 6s, you are still eligible for today’s new deal.

As we broke down earlier this month, T-Mobile’s Jump! On Demand plan without trading in an old phone starts at $27.08 per month for a 16GB iPhone 6s, meaning you’d pay $324.96 over the course of a year. With today’s new plan, you’ll be paying as little as $60/year for the device, assuming you trade in a working iPhone 6.

    Please do your research before posting this junk… I’m a T-Mobile customer and their pricing isn’t anywhere near where they claim it is. You’re paying extra for the “Jump” program and another add on just to pay the “lowest price” for an iPhone. In reality you’re paying $150-200 more. It’s total garbage… I’m seriously disappointed in #Tmobile!

      Very inaccurate comment. The introductory iPhone 6s Jump On Demand deal definitely saves money over buying the phone outright, I think the amount is around $125 total savings. I think you need to review your “research.”

      You should probably take your own advice. Their old “Jump!” program was $10/month on top of the phone payment to be able to upgrade. “Jump! On Demand”, which this article refers to, has no extra cost on top of the phone payment, so all you pay for is the phone itself, and with these recent promos they give you bill credits each month essentially paying for part of the phone for you.

      So much irony in this post. No, one does not pay extra for JUMP! On-Demand.You should probably do your own research before you say something that makes you look really stupid.

      Not the case with Jump On Demand, it’s included with the price, the only thing you have to pay for is insurance now and it’s optional. I have 5 phones on the $15 a month plan that they had going on and they all just upgraded to the new iPhone 6S phones and their bills won’t change. Plus T-Mobile let them get a free storage upgrade, so all who had 16GB models got 64GB and those who had 64GB got 128GB at no additional charge. So they’re all saving a good bit of money and they didn’t pay a dime out of pocket.

    It’s crap. As soon as I saw it I called T-mobile and was going to switch from AT&T. You can only get the 16GB version. Not interested any longer. When I asked the price for a 6S+ they said $24/month.

      Pricing doesn’t go live until tomorrow and even then the CSRs will be slow to learn of the new plans available. It’s likely the 6s+ will be $4/mo more than the prices above. Also you’ll likely not be able to get a 6s+ for several weeks because of availability issues that Apple mentioned.

      Whoever helped you gave you the wrong information. You get the same discount no matter what storage size you want. It is always 20 dollars for 18 months. If you get the 64 gb version, you have to pay an extra 99 dollars. After a the 18 months lease period, you have an option of paying another 164 dollars or something to own it out right. Adding everything together, it is cheaper than buying it full price by 126 dollars.

      So you always get the 126 dollars discount no matter what storage or whether it is a 6s or 6s plus. The only difference is the amount of initial down payment you have to do.

        Actually i take it back. The 24 dollars a month for 6s is correct. If you do the math of 24 per months x 18 months + the amount you pay to own it outright at the end, it is 126 dollars less than the full price.

        They are already giving you a 126 dollars discount. You can’t expect them to give you the exact same monthly payment plan as the 6s which would mean an extra 100 dollars off.

    Possibly what he is trying to do is get everyone that owns an iPhone that doesnt support the 700 MHZ, Band 12, on to the iPhone 6s that does support it. My 2 cents.

      I think so as well but my question is for current customers not already on a Jump! plan being able to take advantage of this. I have two lines that I’d love to have this available to them but I’m just not sure if they’ll be allowed to or not since they still are paying monthly on them. If they say they can then that’s pretty awesome but I’m not banking on it.

        The offer is for all customers. I am getting the offer as an upgrade for my wife’s phone. Basically what they are doing is giving u a 7 dollars credit on the monthly payment for 18 months which total to 126 for any 6s or 6s plus.

        “Customers who sign up for JUMP! On Demand with an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus (all memory variants) can receive a $7 monthly bill credit, which reduces their monthly lease payment to $20 (iPhone 6s) or $24 (iPhone 6s Plus) per month before applicable sales tax.” This is from t-mobile

    That is very aggressive. Makes no sense to use Apple’s plan if you’re a t-mobile customer.

    I like John Legere. He’s the type of scrappy, old school, CEO that is missing from America home of committee decisions, outsourcing, and carly fiorina. I was in a Sprint store and mentioned to the manager T Mobile’s aggressive promotions. He said to me…Sprint always waits to see what the other’s do, then Sprint moves. He positioned this as an advantage. What a monstrous idiot. I looked at him and said, do you realize the implications of what you just said? I had high hopes for Marcelo Claure….they have not been realized as Sprint is still the dumbed down, confusing place it was when he came aboard. Call 3 times and get 3 very different answers…all said to be definitive.

    So…what about people who have a 64GB iPhone 6? Do we get additional credit towards it? Doesn’t make sense to lose a 64 for the same price as 16…

  12. The program sucks! It does not work like a regular lease. A regular lease you only pay for a portion of the product but never own it. The advantage is you want a new car or product and will always be making payments so why not lower them and get the new product? I get that…but big down payments? Pay the phone off at the end? Where’s the deal? They get you at the beginning and at the end so really…I was just told by a t-mobile rep that I cannot trade in for those 18 months on the lease program. For this program you have to pay the full price for the phone at the end and then turn around and have to pay another down payment for the next phone. Not a benefit! It sounded great initially and if you talk to t-mobile reps they all tell you the program works differently. There is no reason to do this – it just sounds good right? They even charge you back if you want to own the phone at the end for the measly monthly $10 credit. I hope consumers will not be duped by this because it’s just a bad program with a teaser to pull people in.
