Steve Jobs, the controversial Sorkin/Boyle not-quite biopic, achieved the highest opening weekend Per-Theater Average (PTA) of any movie this year, reports Deadline. The movie also gave director Danny Boyle the best ever weekend average of his career.
The feature grossed sizzling $520,942, averaging $130,236. By comparison, Boyle’s Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire (2008) grossed over $360K in 10 theaters its debut weekend, averaging $36K. The drama about the Apple founder, adapted by Aaron Sorkin, easily outpaced Sicario‘s $67K debut PTA.
It’s not an all-time record, though …
Deadline reports that the average fell short of the $202k PTA achieved by one of my favorite movies, Grand Budapest Hotel, and the $158k of American Sniper.
The movie has of course been the subject of significant controversy, with some of those close to Jobs – including his widow – objecting to the portrayal, Tim Cook describing all the Jobs movies as “opportunistic” and Jony Ive saying that he didn’t recognize the man portrayed in the movie.
Others close to Jobs have taken a more nuanced line. Steve Wozniak said that while some of the things shown didn’t happen, he did feel like he was actually watching Jobs. Andy Hertzfeld said that while the movie “deviates from reality everywhere,” it does “expose deeper truths.” John Sculley said that it depicts “only one aspect of the man.”
The movie is being gradually rolled out nationwide, and should be available everywhere by 23rd October.

Do we really need another movie about Apple/Steve Jobs? No movies so far have portrayed 100% accuracy anyway. Why would people bother watching it really. I’ll wait a few years, then it’ll be shown on some Sunday afternoon, where I can watch it on my sofa and fall asleep or doing other things.
Also, we don’t need Tim’s opinion about the film either, did he even watch it? Laurene Powell trying to stop the movie being made is just as “oportunistic” as the very same thing Tim is accusing Sorkin of.
Sorry, but any man that denies having a child and doing steps to ensure he dosen’t pay child care (Lisa) isn’t a real man in my books. Can’t hero-worship someone like that. And if he can deny his child, then what else couldn’t he do that was egoistical to other people at Apple. Of which there are many tellings about. No thanks, I’ll just enjoy Apple products so long as they’re good. Amazing so many people can be mislead in this day & age.
Actually, the whole movie focuses on Jobs relationship with Lisa. Almost every character takes him to task over the issue and Lisa as a teenager reads him the riot act. So hardly hero worship.
Really? Thats great to know! Probably why Tim and co. objected to it. Nasty truths don’t have a good resonating taste, but they should learn to deal with it.

People obviously want to see it, and you don’t have to.
So, everybody should want what you want?
This is not impressive at all. Why are they releasing it this way? Maybe to generate buzz? Because so many people who knew Steve Jobs personally are against this movie, and because of the dumbass things said by Aaron Sorkin, I won’t go see this movie.
Let’s not forget that he never made this movie for the money!!! — apparently…lol
Well, imagine that the firts movie just Jobs, and this one is Jobs S Plus. I guess we will have yearly releases. And in the next one we will be able to 3D touch our popcorn :D
Give me a break. It only opened in 4 theaters.
