Apple’s 12.9 inch iPad Pro goes on sale Wednesday in 40 countries, available at retail stores later in the week

As we reported last week, Apple has announced that the iPad Pro will go on sale in 40 countries on Wednesday, November 11th. The ‘epic’ 12.9 inch device will also be available in Apple Retail Stores later in the week.

The iPad Pro costs $799 for the 32 GB base model and maxes out at $1079 for the WiFi + Cellular 128 GB version. The iPad Pro will be available to buy in 40 countries, including the US, UK, Canada, China and Japan …

The iPad Pro accessories, such as the Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil stylus accessory, will also be available from Wednesday, November 11th. In the US, Apple Pencil costs $99 and the charcoal gray Smart Keyboard is $169.

In a statement, Apple SVP marketing Phillip Schiller says early response to iPad Pro has been “incredible”.

“The early response to iPad Pro from app developers and our customers has been incredible, and we’re excited to get iPad Pro into the hands of customers around the world this week,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPad Pro is the most powerful iPad we’ve ever made, giving users the ability to be even more creative and more productive with the epic 12.9-inch Retina display, powerful 64-bit A9X chip and groundbreaking Apple Pencil and new Smart Keyboard. We can’t wait to see what they do with iPad Pro.”

The iPad Pro features a gigantic 12.9 inch Retina Display with 5.6 million pixels, a super-fast A9X processor whilst still providing all day battery life. The iPad Pro is specifically targeted at business, education and creative professionals thanks to the high-resolution pressure sensitive Apple Pencil stylus (optional accessory).

The Apple Smart Keyboard is Apple’s own interpretation of the myriad third-party iPad keyboard cases already available to buy for current iPads. As the iPad Pro is so large, however, it will be the first iPad keyboard case to offer a full size set of keys. The Smart Keyboard charges/pairs to the iPad via a new Smart Connector positioned at the bottom of the iPad Pro.

Expect many app updates from developers in the coming days as software is tailored to the additional screen real-estate offered by the iPad Pro Retina Display and the additional capabilities of the Apple Pencil stylus. Apple is currently promoting Paper, Adobe’s suite of Photoshop appsProcreate 3 and UMake as examples of great iPad Pro apps.

The full list of countries for iPad Pro availability is as follows: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cayman Islands, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greenland, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Russia, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, UAE, US, UK, Uruguay and the Virgin Islands.

    Ah no south Africa :(

    • Hi btw China ships all apple products to South Africa and all the products we get is remade by Chinese factories so we don’t actually get the real deal from the US.

iOS 9.2 might officially release right before Wednesday. Just a speculation.

    • Benjamin Mayo - 9 years ago

iOS 9.2 has nothing to do with iPad Pro. iPad Pro support was added in iOS 9.1 — personally, I don’t expect to see iOS 9.2 released until 2016.

      • tonywmd23 - 9 years ago

Even though Apple has pushed out 2 betas already with a 1-beta-per-week pace? 9.2 beta2 runs way smoother and steadier than 9.1 on my 6s plus. It’s almost as if 9.2 should be the first stable release of iOS9, and many speculate that Apple has been pushing out 9.2 so promptly just for preparation of iPad pro release. Frankly, 9.2 is more than polished enough for an official release.

      • I would be very surprised if Apple releases both, iOS 9.2 and OSX 10.11.2 in 2016. My bets are that they release both before Xmas, somewhere between December 15th and the 22nd.

I will not buy one of these no, but I look forward to hearing about the release of a new iMac that I will be able to simply use as a monitor for a cames console, either PS or Xbox. As it stands, Thunderbolt is a “closed shop” type of port with virtually no use for the layman-in-the-street, only offering use to to a severely limited clique of rich professional users who need extra storage or suchlike.

That screen ratio is just too weird for 12 inch size display. I rather go for a Macbook, it is also thin and light and it runs Mac.

In a statement, Apple SVP marketing Phillip Schiller says early response to iPad Pro has been “incredible”
Yeah, according to Apple, everything about them are incredible, magical, unbelievable, etc.

    • Yes, he should have probably said it was “lukewarm” and “not really where we wanted it to be,” because that’s always reassuring to stockholders.

    • rogifan - 9 years ago

Right because company press releases should say reaction to their product has been lukewarm.

    • xprmntr - 9 years ago

That’s their end goal, to make great products

Meanwhile, Samsung’s marketing VP reported sales of their new 18″ jumbo tablet to be “smooth”…

      £79 Apple Pencil & £139 Smart Keyboard
      £49 Smart Covers & £65 Silicone Cases

I want to, I really *really* do, but I’m not going to! The reason: I am *so* in love with 3D Touch on my iPhone that I simply don’t want to purchase another iPad that doesn’t offer 3D touch. I currently have an iPad Air 2 that I would love to upgrade to the larger screen size, but I’m going to pass because clearly, they’ll be adding 3D touch to an iPad in the near future.

When that happens, I’ll be waiting to preorder with bells on! :-)

    • jamessmooth - 9 years ago

I had the same thought too but what if they upgrade only the Air next year and skip the Pro upgrade? That’s why I think I’ll pull the trigger on the Pro this year.

  13. Wildcat1 (@Wildcat_1) - 9 years ago

@bzamayo and all, any idea whether this will be a ‘true’ pre-order as in midnight 01 on Wednesday delivered on launch day (Friday) or if this will be like the ATV 4 where it will be regular business hours (9am etc) and a regular order just delivering later in the week ?

    Thanks

  14. Sranyoo Chanate - 9 years ago

Will try to be the first to get it in Thailand.

  15. Dylan Soares - 9 years ago

Will be purchasing everything on Wednesday…very excited to see how the new Apple Pencil plays out. Disappointed that the keyboard only comes in one colors, seems like something that would definitely sell more in multiple colors….same with the pencil, would’ve been nice to have a gold one to go along with the iPad Pro. Oh well guess i’ll just have to buy secondary ones when they finally do come out with colors haha

I still don’t understand why Apple didn’t put the A9X chip in the iPad Air.

    • rogifan - 9 years ago

Why? What would an A9X iPad Air do that the current iPad Air doesn’t do (except maybe give us worse battery life).

      • More than anything, what I would love to see is the Pencil tech / capability come to the 9.7″ iPad. For users looking for a device that’s portable, lightweight, and do a sufficient amount of note taking, this would be a great solution.

  17. jamessmooth - 9 years ago

Pretty sure I’ll go for the 32GB Pro. Xmas present to myself. Just got a SP4 for work, and man that thing is BIG. So, hopefully the huge size won’t be an issue. I really don’t think people understand how massive 12.9″ is.

  18. Any guess on time?

  19. Don Horne (@DonHorne) - 9 years ago

At this price point I’ll be waiting to try it out first in the store before making any decisions.

  20. MK (@MathiasMK84) - 9 years ago

Zürich Apple Store here I come. Please reserve me a 128GB Space grey WiFi model and a Pencil. Not sure about the Keyboard yet…

  21. Raymond Psaila - 9 years ago

Yes I will be buying the New iPad Pro WiFi + Cellular 128 GB version with the Apple Pencil stylus and the New Smart Keyboard, On the morning of Wendesday the 11th of November 2015, I will sit well with my iPhone 6s plus, My Apple Watch and my IMac 27″ Retina 5K . All but in the Late summer 2015
And I will like all the Items have Bought, be adding Apple Cover to my Order

  22. Beth (@ehl2828) - 9 years ago

Will it go on sale online at midnight on the 11th? PST?

  23. Beth (@ehl2828) - 9 years ago

Will it go on sale online at midnight on November 11th PST?

  24. Excited for the iPad Pro! I need it for writing, drawing, mind maps, notes, Keynotes, and spreadsheets, which I do away from home. In ‘the crib’ I have an iMac that can continue my away work because of storing the work in iCloud. My setup also includes an iPhone 6s, so I don’t need a laptop or an iPad mini.
