Twitter launches new Apple TV app for streaming live video including NFL Thursday Night Football

Just in time for NFL Thursday Night Football (and tvOS 10), Twitter is launching a new Apple TV app for streaming live video to the big screen. It was first reported a month ago that the new app was in the works. The new app will let viewers watch premium video content like the 10 NFL games that Twitter bought the rights to broadcast, and Twitter content like Top Tweets and Vines will also be accessible.

The free apps will feature all live streaming video available on Twitter (including live streams of 10 NFL Thursday Night Football games, as well as content from MLB Advanced Media, NBA, Pac 12 Networks, Campus Insiders, Cheddar and Bloomberg News), and other Twitter content such as top Tweets and top global Vines and Periscopes. Anyone with these devices, regardless of whether they have a Twitter account or a pay TV subscription, can enjoy this experience.

Exclusively on Apple TV, viewers can enjoy live premium video and check out Tweeted video clips through a seamless side-by-side video experience.

As far as Thursday Night Football goes, Apple was once said to be interested in bidding for the rights to the NFL games, but Twitter ultimately buying the streaming rights is a win for Apple’s platform minus the exclusivity.

Twitter says the new Apple TV apps will be available starting today. Twitter’s TV app is launching on Amazon Fire TV and Xbox One. Search the App Store on tvOS to find the new Twitter app for Apple TV, or just ask Siri to download it.
