iCloud or iMessage? AirDrop or email? Chart maps best ways to share iPhone photography

Sharing photos and videos that you shoot on your iPhone isn’t always totally straightforward. There are lots of common edge cases when formatting and quality just isn’t preserved, and it can be difficult to master what works and where without lots of experience. That’s why Johann Werk put together a thorough flow chart that walks you through how each method works.

Posted on his Github page, his Guide to Sharing with Apple Photos highlights many of the challenges people face when sending or post photos and videos from the iPhone today. Werk also notes many of the roadblocks you may face when sharing media today like sharing GIFs through iCloud Photo Sharing, managing a shared library without downsizing quality, and sharing edited photos while preserving the unmodified version with the recipient.

Some of the stops along the way are a bit nit-picky for common media sharing between family and friends, but Werk helpfully includes four conclusions for how to share photos and videos depending on your needs: iCloud Photo Sharing, email, AirDrop, and iMessage.

The graphic also includes helpful tips like needing to open AirDropped Live Photos in the Photos app on the Mac and not a downloads folder to preserve the format, disabling Low Power Mode on iOS when experiencing weird errors, and more.
