New social media posts from both China Telecom and China Mobile (via GSMArena) are building some hype for dual-SIM support for this year’s iPhones. While details about which models and regions will get the upgrade are still hazy, the latest advertisements indicate that at least one of the new iPhones will get the new user-friendly feature in the country.
We’ve seen a mix of reports on how Apple will implement dual-SIM support in its iPhones this year. Back in early July, Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that the expanded slot would arrive with the 6.5-inch iPhone Xs. 9to5Mac’s Gui Rambo later uncovered references to dual-SIM support in iOS 12 beta 5, but it didn’t reveal specifics on what device(s) would offer the feature.
Last month, in contrast to Kuo’s forecast, Economic Daily News reported that it would actually be the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone to receive a dual-SIM tray. A separate prediction came from Bloomberg noted that the change would only be seen in specific countries and show up only in the higher end OLED models.
Now, both China Telecom and China Mobile are teasing support for dual-SIM iPhones with posts on their respective Facebook pages. China Telecom shared what looks like an iPhone mock-up with a different dual-SIM tray than the one we saw in the alleged 6.1-inch iPhone leak over the weekend.
China Mobile on the other hand used a custom graphic of a cartoon apple to drop the hint. Neither one gives us a better idea at which model(s) will sport the feature, but we’re just two short days away from finding out. Stay tuned to 9to5Mac for coverage of Apple’s iPhone event and much more!
