HomePod’s primary interface is by using voice with Siri. However, sometimes it’s simply more convenient to go up to HomePod and control it with the touch surface. Follow along to learn how to use gesture controls on HomePod.
How to use gesture controls on HomePod
Using gesture controls on HomePod should be pretty familiar to anyone who has owned an iPod, or used an iPhone with the classic Apple earbuds or EarPods.
When audio is playing with HomePod, you see the + and – symbols up top. These represent volume and volume down. Tapping anywhere else on the display will pause/play music. Additionally, double tapping will skip to the next track, and triple tapping will skip back a track.
If you’re near HomePod, but are in a loud/feel awkward yelling “Hey Siri” you can tap and hold anywhere on the top (minus volume buttons) to invoke Siri.
