Mark Jardine, designer for Tapbots apps including the popular Tweetbot app, tweeted a photo teasing the upcoming redesign of the Mac version for the third party Twitter client; the current version of Tweetbot for Mac features a heavier design aesthetic than the general user interface introduced with OS X 10.10 Yosemite.
As you can see in the teaser above, the redesign takes design cues from the latest version of Tweetbot for iPhone using Yosemite design elements like translucency in addition to round avatars and softer window controls. Also visible in the full shot, seen below, is an unreleased iPhone app, likely a new version of Calcbot (which debuted on the Mac recently) which should also include features previously in Convertbot; not teased is the expected redesign of Tweetbot for iPad. As for the tablet version of the popular third party Twitter app, Tapbots has said that “Tweetbot 3 for the iPad is in development,” but provided no updates since September of last year.
Update: This clears up the picture a bit…

I hope its a free update ’cause I just bought it a few weeks ago.
Don’t hold your breath. While I hope it is too, traditionally Tapbots releases significant updates as new apps.
Tapbots have said on numerous occasions that Tweetbot 3 for Mac will be a free update.
Tweetbot 2.0 will be a free upgrade for those that bought the previous version.

$19.99 well-spent then, I was really expecting them to charge for it. I wonder how the tokens issue will play out..
Really can’t wait.
Of all three platforms, the iPad version is the most in need of an update and it looks like, once again, it’s been relegated to the back burner. Extremely disappointing.
The iPad version is the least used though.
Tapbot$$$$$$
yes
(: happy
Tapbots has been promising an update to the paid Tweetbot for iPad for ages, and I can see what they will do, release a new app and charge you an extortionate amount for it again.. I don’t know why they couldn’t have created a universal app for the iPhone and the iPad in the first place..
I’m still thinking that 19$ for a Twitter client is way too much, even if it’s the best (looking?) around.
They were clear about why they did that from the start. They were trying to delay last week’s consequences as long as possible.
when will they get it together and update tweetbot for ipad.
Looks pretty disappointing. The main issue I’ve always had with the Mac version is that it’s basically the iOS app, with all the interactions that were designed for a phone, bar a couple of desktop concessions. That’s not how good OS X software is designed, and this version isn’t immediately looking a lot better.
Twitter have stifled all motivation for third parties at this point, as was their intent. Any Twitter client is capped at the number of users it can *ever* have. As people stop using a client, those users still count against their cap unless they go in and specifically ‘release’ their ID. Twitter effectively EOLed every third party client. This is bad enough, but on top of that, twitter’s own offerings are horrible. I decided long ago that when the clients I use stop working or stop getting updates because the developers can’t make money, I will be done with Twitter. I live my life perfectly well without Farcebook, I can certainly do without Twitter.
Yes, that certainly doesn’t help. Even still, given how long they seem to have been working on it, I’d been hoping for something a bit more interesting — there’s no shortage of innovation in Twitter clients for my Android phone, and they’re subject to the same limitations.
I really wish they had enough time/money/resources/employees to get Tweetbot 3 for the iPad done. It’s still on iOS 6 code and it’s likely iOS 9 will be out by the time they release something.
Honestly there are a lot of revisions that should be made to the Mac version. There is no ability to schedule tweets, the search function to find a user is ridiculously difficult, when clicking ‘RT’ you should have the option from which account you want to do it from (shouldn’t have to be on that page). It’s crazy because Tweetdeck gives you all of those options but just isn’t the most pretty.
