Here are all of iOS 9’s colorful new wallpapers for your iPhone

We shared yesterday that Apple’s newly released fifth developer beta version of iOS 9 adds a new collection of colorful, Retina showcasing default wallpapers for the iPhone. Settling on a new wallpaper, or in this case a whole set of gorgeous imagery, usually mean development on the operating system itself is wrapping up ahead of a public release sometime the following month.

For non-developers and iPhone users not risking stability on their daily driver in favor of new eye candy and features, though, the several week waiting period for iOS 9 to be finalized and released ahead of the new iPhone 6S can make waiting to try those new wallpapers frustrating. To remedy that, we’ve shared downloadable versions of each new wallpaper below so you can sport the iOS 9 look on your iPhone without the occasional bugs that accompany beta versions of iOS:

Landscapes

Planets

Color Explosions

Feathers

Plants

And for good measure, here’s the original iOS 9 default wallpaper — a multi-colored wave — although it’s been replaced in the latest beta along with several iOS 7 and iOS 8 default wallpapers (plus OS X 10.11 El Capitan’s new wallpapers). To save any of these wallpapers for use on your own iPhone ahead of iOS 9’s release, open the gallery for each set to access the full resolution version.

Based on the black backgrounds on these I’m going to guess that the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus will have OLED displays like the Apple Watch. There’s a strong argument that they won’t since something like that is more likely to debut with the iPhone 7 but these wallpapers open the possibility.

Great idea but I don’t think so. iOS 8 came with several wallpapers with black backgrounds featuring flowers. I think it’s less of an OLED thing and more of a minimalist design thing.

I think those iOS 8 wallpapers are still wallpapers of motion wallpapers that will be used in iOS 9 on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus OLED or microLED displays. I believe those were shot with excessive detail at the same time they were shooting the Apple Watch motion wallpapers. I think they just stuck the stills on iOS 8 because they knew they wanted the motion for the new display in iOS 9. Those flower wallpapers framed in white and black backgrounds in iOS 8 (and they remain in iOS 9 which is a hint to me), are extremely detailed, and I think they are very comparable to the motion type flower wallpapers on the Apple Watch. I bet we see those as motion wallpapers, and I think iPhone 6s (s stands for screen), will have insane blacks and insane whites, and if you have a white front iPhone, the white framed flowers will blend into the bezel, just as the black framed ones will blend into the bezel of the black phones. I think it will as Jony Ive stated, make them look magical.

I also think the box art having the wallpapers on them screams new screen to me, I think they will really push these as having new, great screens.

At least that’s my speculation, and I hope I’m right.

BTW, are there iPad versions of these available too?

How does one extract these from iOS 9? I was attempting to get into the .ipsw files that I downloaded from the Apple developer site. I managed to get into the .ipsw files, but inside, there are three disk images. Two of them won’t open, and the other is password protected.

I’m not sure how they did it here, but we have the keys for the A5 since there was a boot rom exploit for it and are able to decrypt the root filesystem (the largest of the 3 dmgs).

Wouldn’t just taking screenshots of them do the trick?

Not to be a complete asshole, but I’m shocked and upset you failed to mention PB3 was also released.

Those background screens are gross. What in the world is going on at Apple?

These are NOT the full resolution wallpapers — great example is the black feather one which is a lot more blurred and lower res than originally extracted wallpapers from iOS 9 ipsw. So my question is, does anyone have the full res wallpapers?
